SPFBO6 : Cover Competition

It’s difficult to believe but the next SPFBO competition is about to start (more details and links can be found here) and in traditional style we begin with a cover competition.  So, posted below are the 30 books that I’ve been assigned (which I’m excited to tuck into – in fact who am I kidding I have actually started already).  I will be posting an introductory piece but thought I better make my selection for the competition.  Below are my covers and my final 3 that will be submitted for the cover contest (follow this link to see all the other contestants):

SPFBO5 will commence at the start of July.  The books have been assigned and as with previous years the first stage of the competition is all about the cover art.  Each of the 10 judges will choose their three favourite covers from the 30 books they’ve been allocated.  Once the entries are all chosen the voting begins (I’ll post more details about the competition soon).  Anyway, this isn’t my opening post – I’ll be sorting something out shortly to let everyone know how I intend to proceed this year.  In the meantime feast your eyes on my assigned books.  This is a good opportunity for me to ruminate on my covers and also gives authors the chance to shout out if I’m not displaying the  most uptodate cover (just leave me a comment if I need to make changes).

People.  A quick update just in case you’re absolutely gagging to know how the cover contest is progressing (and why wouldn’t you be).  All ten blogs have now chosen their three entries and all thirty covers are copied below for your ease of reference.  Each blog will now choose four favourite covers from this bevy of beauties and hopefully a winner will come to the fore.

If you’re interested in casting a vote there is a poll set up here and anyone can take part – Be aware that the votes cast by the judges will determine the winner but it’s really interesting to see how a general vote pans out compared to the judge choice.  Drop on by and cast your vote – and obviously if you want to choose my three books then that would be rather jolly decent of you – however, in fairness, there are some damned impressive covers this year and choosing is going to be mighty difficult.  Wow.  Just wow.

Here they be:

#SPFBO Cover Competition

black

If you’re familiar with this blog you’ll be aware that for the past three years I’ve taken part in the Self Published Fantasy Blog Off (SPFBO) created by Mark Lawrence (check out the details here).  Basically the SPFBO is a competition for self published authors.  Each year 300 books are submitted, 10 judges are awarded 30 books each, each judge submits one book to the final stage and finally one book, with the highest rating wins the competition.  As the contest begins we have a cover competition.  Below are the 30 covers for my books (list of titles and authors can be found here). I will be choosing 3 covers from the titles below to submit for the contest.  I already have 3 in mind and will post my choices on Friday – but, I want to give the authors a chance to check my list and ensure I have the most uptodate covers.

So, here they are – and there are some lovelies to feast your eyes on:

My Cover Selection #SPFBO 17

I recently posted all the books I’m taking on for the #SPFBO 17 contest.  At the start of the contest we’re holding a cover competition.  Check out this post to see all my book covers.  I think I had some great contenders but I’ve had to pick three and so here they are:

theempire

Empire of the Dead by Phil Tucker.  I really like this cover.

sparkof

Spark of Defiance by Autumn M Birt. Another great cover – check out that beastie!

LandofGods

Land of Gods by Justin Sloan. Totally different from the first two but I like the sense of movement, the theme and the font.
