#SPFBO5 : Friday Cover Love
SPFBO5 will commence at the start of July. The books have been assigned and as with previous years the first stage of the competition is all about the cover art. Each of the 10 judges will choose their three favourite covers from the 30 books they’ve been allocated. Once the entries are all chosen the voting begins (I’ll post more details about the competition soon). Anyway, this isn’t my opening post – I’ll be sorting something out shortly to let everyone know how I intend to proceed this year. In the meantime feast your eyes on my assigned books. This is a good opportunity for me to ruminate on my covers and also gives authors the chance to shout out if I’m not displaying the most uptodate cover (just leave me a comment if I need to make changes).
Great selection!
Definitely difficult to narrow it down to three.
Lynn 😀
Very cool, and I even recognize a few of these😁
Yes, some of these have definitely been popping up recently so not surprised they’d be on your radar.
Lynn 😀
It would be interesting to turn this cover presentation into a game where we can guess the story based on the cover design and/or the title. Of course, seeing “Prince of Cats” I could not help wondering if it meant a young Tybalt… 😀 😀 😀
Tybalt…. – I need to get back to the Toby Daye series.
Lynn 😀
Wow, you guys don’t get much of a break between years! I’m glad another round is about to commence though, and I definitely think the covers get better with every year.
Yes, we do seem to have picked up fairly quickly this time around – just a month’s break in between. The covers are really good aren’t they – difficult to choose just three.
Lynn 😀
Great covers. I would have a hard time choosing between them.
Yes, I’m feeling that about now. I’d definitely like to choose more than 3.
Lynn 😀
[…] to select my three favourites – there are some impressive covers for sure, check them out here. This week I’ve read three books, I did go off plan a little but read two of my scheduled […]
Urg! Rather you than me – but what I take away from this selection is the overall quality and sophistication. Indie covers are every bit as spiffy and eye-catching as their trad cousins, it seems to me. Often better…
There are some really good covers here to be honest in fact I find overall that the quality of covers during this competition has been very good.
Lynn 😀
Oh man! I don’t think I could pick three favorites! I was able to narrow it down to 6 😂😂
River of Thieves
Prometheus
Realm of Beasts
The Gates of Golorath
Shard & Shield
Daughter of Fate
Good choices – I definitely have a couple of those on my narrowed down list 😀
Blimey… there’s a lot of stiff competition here. I have to admit I’m really nervous about entering this competition now. Good luck to all the other authors and good luck to Lynn, you’ve got quite a mountain of reading to do!
Thanks Vincent – and good luck to you too. At the end of the day without the courage of all you authors to put your work out there we wouldn’t have a competition at all. I salute you all.
I also must say that bearing in mind this competition goes down fairly quickly from 300 to 10 and then to 1 – it really is pretty intense, but, I think that everyone who enters can gain something, connections, friendships, advice, reviews and pointers, etc.
I wish you all the best.
Lynn 😀
Looks like a great group this year! I’ve heard A LOT of great things about Rob Hayes’ book as well as Benedict Patrick. Also, Benedict’s books have THE best covers, I love them. 🙂
They are lovely covers. 😀
Ooo there are some more great covers this year 😀
There really are. It was difficult to choose only 3.
[…] into the cover competition. Details here. My list of books and all my covers can be found here and my final selection was posted yesterday. Go and check out the covers selected – because […]
