About Me
Hello
A little bit about me. I have three children (a 23 year old son, and two daughter s who are 22 and 20, who I love (although sometimes they are a lot of hard work!) I work full time. I have a Lakeland Terrier dog called Dude – who is crazy (probably helps if you live in our house).
I like to cook – although I don’t really bake. I always seem to have a full house of people and noise and everything is a bit chaotic – what can you do if you have five adults competing for fun?? My house is definitely not something from Good Housekeeping – looks more like a set from Steptoe and Sons, bags piled up in the hallway, so many pairs of shoes and coats its just ridiculous and then my obsession with books which I don’t seem to be able to stop collecting and consequently are stacked in piles all over the house – a bit like a crazy professor!
I’m either reading books, talking about books or checking out which books to add to my tbr pile. More recently, I’ve discovered that I DON’T have to finish the book I’m reading if I don’t like it – life is just too short. I always give my current book a fair trial though. If it doesn’t grab me after 100 or so pages then it’s failed!
I love to talk to other bloggers about books – it allows me to let off book ‘steam’ without boring ‘unbooklike’ people to sleep!

Leave a response and help improve reader response. All your responses matter, so say whatever you want. But please refrain from spamming and shameless plugs, as well as excessive use of vulgar language.
Having survived two teenage daughters and now trying to survive a sixteen-year-old son, I can relate to your situation. I am also a relentless collector of books — sometimes buying the same book twice without realizing it. Do you ever do that?
I just looked at A-Z of Reviews. Have you thought of writing your own novels?
Hi
Thanks for checking out my blog.
I loved your post on freshly pressed (and congrats on that btw), really funny – and I continued to think of yet more and more silly phrases for days after reading it – ‘your eyes are too big for your belly’, etc, etc,. By the way did you do your own cartoons? They’re really good. Anyway, I have to hand it to you, anything that stays in your mind for days after must have made an impact.
Yes, I do buy the same books twice. I did that fairly recently – I figure that if I was drawn to the jacket and the description once then it stands to reason it would attract me again. And, I think I read my books so fast that I don’t always remember the name so …. that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it – or I’m just losing the plot – you can decide!
I would love to be able to write a book but really don’t have the talent (not to mention story line) and frankly I wouldn’t know where to begin. I guess reading them is so much easier.
Lynn 😀
It sounds like your home is a wonderful place to grow up.:-) Interesting site you have here, Lynn!
Thanks. It’s a bit chaotic to be honest but at least I can say in all honesty ‘never a dull moment!’
Lynn 😀
Your childern will thank you one day!
Ha, ha, let’s not get carried away now! Only kidding, I love them massively and they’re all really great and that’s all that I can ask for!
Lynn 😀
Well, that’s really all that any of us can ask for, isn’t it? 🙂
Hi Lynn, I’m returning the visit. 🙂
You like to cook, you have my admiration, if I could get away with skipping it, I would. Now baking…I could do that almost everyday.
I browsed through your reviews, you seem to like vampire stories, just like I do. Have you read “Salem’s Lot” by Stephen King? I recommend it.
Yeah, I’ve read quite a lot of vampire stories – but my taste is changing/developing more – I’m really enjoying fantasy at the moment and even a little bit of sci fi which is not strictly speaking, my thing. I have read Salem’s Lot quite a few years ago – it’s an excellent book – Stephen King is such a good writer though! I don’t do a lot of baking I must admit – I do lots of cooking – and enjoy experimenting and making things from scratch, particularly over the weekend when I’m not in work – or when I’m on holiday and chilled out. The only baking I do – is a nice Brownie recipe, a rocky road and flapjacks – but to be honest I’m never inspired to do so!
Lynn 😀
Hi there! I wanted to let you know that I love your blog and I’ve nominated you for a Versatile Blogger award! You can find the link to the nomination at:
http://purpleandplum.wordpress.com/2012/07/06/extremely-honoured/
Congratulations
Hi
Thanks so much that’s really brilliant!
Lynn 😀
Hey, Lynn. =)
There’s a game of blog-tag doing the rounds, and I’ve passed it onto you. If you do decide to take part, I can’t wait to hear your answers. =)
Hi, yes, I saw this and read your answers which were very entertaining. I’ll definitely take part and thanks.
Lynn 😀
I give about 100 pages too. Sometime though, depending on my mood – only the first couple pages.
I do tend to walk round book stores with an arm full of books – but I always take the liberty of reading the first few pages, I realise I probably look really cheeky but I have to check out the writer’s style and see at least if we can get along.
Lynn 😀
Totally agree.
hi could you please tell me who is the murderer in the act of roger murgatroyd?
Hi Just sent you an email. If you respond to that I’ll let you know – don’t want to go all spoilery unless you absolutely insist!
Lynn 😀
Sorry I spelled my e-mail wrong. Try sending an e-mail again please
I’ve included a spoiler at the bottom of the post – which you need to highlight.
Lynn 😀
Hello again
Figured out a way to tell you – if you go to the post about the Last Act – I’ve added a new sentence that tells who the murderer is (at the bottom of the piece – but I’ve whitened this out so that it doesn’t automatically appear – you just need to highlight it.
Hope that helps.
Lynn 😀
Thank you
Three teenagers…I’ve always respected you and have been in awe in how quickly you finish books. Now I’m completely gobsmacked. How do you find the time?
Yes, it’s not easy, three teenagers, two dogs and work full time! But reading is how I relax. I must admit that the blogosphere takes a bit of time as well but it’s all enjoyable so I don’t mind – not to mention the quality of tv is so poor these days that I don’t watch much. I love films though so watch quite a few if I can.
Lynn 😀
I hear you about TV not being as good lately. I prefer either reading or watching movies or documentaries. Happy, stress-free (I hope) reading.
You have a great blog. Wow!
I look forward to follow you into the future.
Best regards
Dina
Thanks for stopping by.
Lynn 😀

Thanks Emma – I’ll have to stop by and check out your blog as well.
Lynn 😀
Hi there, just stopping by to say that I really like you blog, and have nominated you for the Liebster award. Information about the award is here: http://islandgeekgirl.wordpress.com/2013/09/29/the-liebster-award/
Hi, thanks for that. Will check it out when I return from my hols. Only have limited wifi at the moment.
Lynn 😀
I’ve been exploring your blog and I love it! You have excellent taste in books and I am going to come here for reading recommendations in the future.
Thanks – what’s your reading ‘happy’ zone. I could probably point you in the direction of some really excellent blogs (that put mine to shame!) that you could also check out. I tend to read a lot of fantasy/adventure but I try to balance it out a bit with other reading, bit of mystery/suspense/historical. Occasional YA, classical.
The Classics Club is a great place to meet other bloggers and hopefully we’ll have a good few books in common.
Lynn 😀
I read a lot of things that would be generally considered “book club fiction” like The Art of Racing in the Rain, Motherless Brooklyn, Life of Pi. I love when that sort of book club fiction crosses over more into fantasy a la The Time Traveler’s Wife or The Night Circus or Life After Life. That kind of stuff is my absolute favorite. I also really like historical fiction like Umberto Eco.
Hey, Lynn!
Would you be willing to accept books from authors to review? Would you like to interview authors?
I have a new blog that, if you are interested, would enable you to do this?
Let me know,
Felicia
Hi Felicia
Thanks for getting in touch. It’s always great to be considered for books for review and author interviews but I suppose it depends on what sort of books you’re thinking of using your blog to look at. I tend to be primarily focused on SFF. I don’t read romance novels – but obviously if there is a little romance included in the story that’s fine, I just don’t want to read a book where the focus is romance. I like history and a little bit of horror or mystery but I prefer darker novels and paranormal. Is that the sort of works you’ll be promoting?
Lynn 😀
Hi Lynn!
Just saw Felicia’s post above, and figured I’d leave you a comment here!
I am a publicist working with author Jonathan Curelop on his novel Tanker 10 (You can see info here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18701828-tanker-10?from_search=true).
I saw you had reviewed a few coming of age stories, and know that you have three teenagers, so I wanted to reach out and see if you’d be interested in reviewing Jonathan’s book! If so, I’d love to send you a copy of the book to read – and perhaps we can schedule a review sometime in late March / early April??? I’d love to discuss! Would you be so kind to shoot me an e-mail if you’re interested?
Thank you so much!
Sami
samantha@jkscommunications.com
Hi Sami
Thanks very much for the offer to read Tanker 10, that’s really good of you. I think I would probably have to decline at the moment because although I do enjoy coming of age novels I already seem to be very behind with the things I’ve committed to and basically I hate letting people down when I’ve undertaken something.
All the best.
Lynn 😀
Hi Lynn,
Just wondering how you choose which books you’re going to review? I ask because I just published Book One: The Girl, the first book in The Sanctum trilogy. It’s paranormal fiction and I love your blog, so thought I would reach out and see if you’re interested.
Thanks much,
Madhuri
Great blog! Please follow me back on http://www.authorsophia.wordpress.com for author interviews, book reviews, travel, beauty, inspirational qoutes, and a diary of my life in Spain, and writing process x
Thanks for stopping over. I’ll definitely check out your blog.
Lynn 😀
Hi,
I ‘ve been following your excellent blog ever since you posted a comment on mine. It is incredible that you find the time to read and review books with three teenagers in the house.and a full time job. I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed reading your posts.
Cheers,
Sharath
Hello
That’s really nice of you to say so. Reading is my hobby of course so it’s no hardship – I must admit that keeping up with a blog takes some of my reading time away but I enjoy it and get to talk (relatively non-stop) about books with like minded people rather than boring people to death with it who aren’t interested!
Thanks for stopping by.
Lynn 😀
dear Lynn,
If you´re worried about wasting your time on a bad book well you can stick with the classics, Nebula+Hugo award winners and word-of-mouth gems. That alone will give you 1000years of good reading.
I´m just saying…
Thanks. Any advice always gratefully received. I do tend to read a lot of books from recommendations.
Lynn 😀
I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Award. Details here
Thanks Keri.
Lynn 😀
Lynn, thanks for the recommendation of Tamsin for Once Upon a Time. I just added my post…and mentioned you!
Hi Deb. Stopped over and checked out your review. Thanks for the mention, however, I think it was possible the other Lynn – O’Connaucht?? Maybe?? Only because I haven’t read Tamsin.
Thanks anyway.
Lynn 😀

Aw thanks! I’m all blushing!
Lynn 😀
Hello Lynn! My name is Aya, and I am a fellow book lover/blogger. I was wondering if you’d be interested in participating in a small project that I am doing. I wanted to ask a bunch of bloggers (49, to be exact :p), to give me one of their favorite book quotes. I’m going to compile them all in one post and then post it on my blog on the 22nd of this month. It’d be fantastic if you would be a part of this. Just let me know by this Sunday, please, so that I have plenty of time to compile and/or ask someone else. Thank you!
P.S. You are the 7th one to be asked!
Hi – I’m so sorry – I don’t think I every responded to this so I feel terribly rude! I remember seeing your comment coming in but then, much like a goldfish, I must have been distracted! Apologies. I hope your post was great – or if you still haven’t posted and have room for one more quote then do let me know.
Lynn 😀
That’s okay; don’t worry about it. I did publish the post on the planned date, but I might to do more projects like these in the future, inshAllah (if God wills). Would you like to be a part of one?
Yeah, keep me posted. Your post was great – I just stopped over to take a look – I love film and book quotes.
Lynn 😀

Nice to know more about you, Lynn. We are fast approaching having all adult children (4 and our oldest just turned 21 with the other 3 close behind). It’s been a very busy summer with a full house, but that will all change in a week when the older 2 go back to college. Although crazy, I do like a full house and I know I will be sad when it’s quiet again!
A full house is fun! Busy – but definitely worth it.
