Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy .  This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers.  The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book (this doesn’t have to be a book that you’ve read), compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite.   Future week’s themes are listed below – if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme.  I’ve also listed events that take place during the year, that I’m aware of, so you can link up your covers – if you’re aware of any events that you think I should include then give me a shout.  This week’s theme:

Silhouette – an island, a person, anything you like

I think this week’s topic was a little easier than last week’s thank goodness and I spotted quite a few covers for this theme but I’ve gone with the first book in a series that I’ve enjoyed very much so far: Foundryside (The Founders Trilogy #1) by Robert Jackson Bennett.  Here are the covers:

Not a lot of covers this week but the first and fourth covers both fit the theme.

My favourite:

Foundryside RD4 clean flat

I also like the fourth because of the colours but the first one is my favourite. I like the added touches around the outside of the cover, the way the character is framed and the background which is pertinent to the plot.

So, which is your favourite?

I’ll be updating the list in order to include forthcoming events that I’m aware of so that you can perhaps link your themes up where possible (if you know of an event you’d like to share then let me know in the comments).  As always, if you wish to submit an idea then leave me a comment – or if you’d like to host a week then simply let me know.

Next week – Flight – any type of flight – to flee, to fly

Future themes: (if you’re struggling with any of these themes then use a ‘freebie’ or one of your favourite covers) (I’ve added some new themes – some of these are slightly different, in order to avoid too much repetition I’m trying to make the themes more of a suggestion that everyone can interpret how they like.

Graphic novel cover – “Love belongs to Desire, and Desire is always cruel”

I don’t read a lot of graphic novels but I have read and enjoyed the first five Sandman Novels by Neil Gaiman and so have chosen : Dream Country (The Sandman #3) by Neil Gaiman.

I hope this wasn’t a difficult week – I have some high expectations for this theme. Here are my covers:

So, there are some very unusual covers yes?  This is a great graphic novel series and I really need to go back and finish it – I’m saving it.  My favourite this week:

Dream4

Do you have a favourite?

Next week – as pink as cotton candy – any cover that is pink

Future themes: (if you’re struggling with any of these themes then use a ‘freebie’ or one of your favourite covers) (I’ve added some new themes – some of these are slightly different, in order to avoid too much repetition I’m trying to make the themes more of a suggestion that everyone can interpret how they like.

A lot of the new themes are open to interpretation which might make choosing the covers and seeing other’s choices very interesting.  I can’t stress enough that this is all about your own interpretation and hopefully this new open feel to the meme will bring a larger selection of books and covers.  It’s not supposed to be hard work, there are no rules, just enjoy yourself.

I’m hoping this week was easy for everyone.  I certainly had no problems finding books to meet this week’s theme and in the spirit of trying to find more recent books have again gone for a title that I read a couple of years ago. The Last Dog on Earth by Adrian J. Walker – I really enjoyed this one, a post apocalyptic tale with a dog playing a key role.  My review is here.  And, here are this week’s coers – not many, see which you like best:

I actually quite like all three of these but for sheer entertainment value I must go with:

LD3

Next week – a graphic novel cover

May is the month of Wyrd & Wonder and so I will be trying to focus on fantasy book covers:

8th May – graphic novel cover – “Love belongs to Desire, and Desire is always cruel”

15th May – pink – as pink as cotton candy – any cover that is pink

22nd May – Sorrow – a cover that makes you feel sad

Friday Face Off : “Pretty armour doesn’t make a warrior.”

This week was more difficult than I expected simply because a couple of books that I thought of didn’t have alternative covers to compare.  I thought of actually using a montage of covers but then I came across We Ride the Storm (The Reborn Empire #1) by Devin Madson.  This is an excellent book that I highly recommend and it has two amazing covers.

This probably doesn’t look like armour as such?  I’m not sure but I think it counts.  My favourite (difficult to choose really) is :

WRTS2

Seriously, just scroll into this and look at the detail, it’s simply amazing.  I love the perspective and the dramatic black and red of the sky which is so eye catching and really pulls you in until you notice the warriors charging towards you, swords raised.  Stunning.

Do you have a favourite?

2019

1st May – Canine – “And then there were cats, thought Dog.:

8th May – graphic novel cover – “Love belongs to Desire, and Desire is always cruel”

15th May – pink – as pink as cotton candy – any cover that is pink

22nd May – Sorrow – a cover that makes you feel sad

Friday Face Off : double vision or all a blur

Out of focus – double vision or all a blur

This week I didn’t have anything in particular in mind but I did recall a recent read that I really enjoyed with a blurry/fuzzy cover – tbh I didn’t think there would be alternative covers so I was super happy when I found that there was.  I really enjoyed : The God Game by Danny Tobey.  Take a look at the covers:

All similar -apart from that second cover.  My favourite:

GG1

I mean, strictly speaking, on first glance, they’re probably not the most striking covers but in actual fact they work well for the book.  My review is here if you want to check it out.

Do you have a favourite?
