This week I’ve not done well in terms of the books I was hoping to read.  I have however completed the first stage of the SPFBO and chosen my book to go through to the final stage: Jack Bloodfist: Fixer by James Jakins.  Congratulations to James.  I had some good contenders this year and have really enjoyed the reads.   I’ve been rather busy socially the past week and so whilst I’ve started a couple of books off my intended reading list from last week I’ve not completed any of them.  In fact I seem to have been busy doing nothing really.

Anyway, hope you all had a good week.

  1. The Queen of All Crows by Rod Duncan (about 60% into this one)
  2. Heartland and Firestorm by Lucy Hounsom

Upcoming reviews:

  1. A Matter of Blood by Sarah Pinborough
  2. Starborn by Lucy Hounsom
  3. The City of Brass (The Daevabad Trilogy #1) by S.A. Chakraborty
  4. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
  5. Envy of Angels by Matt Wallace

Let me know what you’re reading this week.

It’s been two weeks since my last wrap up.  I posted a monthly round up so thought a weekly wrap up on top of that would have been a bit much.  I’ve had a lovely week.  It was my birthday yesterday and I had a really good day – there was cake (and maybe the odd glass of wine).  Below are two week’s worth of books together with what I’m hoping to read this week.  I’ve been reading a lot of my final SPFBO books.  My sixth round up post is due tomorrow and I will then review  the books I’ve read and choose my finalist to go through to round 2 (should be ready to announce by Saturday 16th if not slightly sooner).

Anyway, hope you all had a good week.

  1. War Witch by Layla Nash
  2. Jack Bloodfist: Fixer by James Jakins

This week has again flown, I feel like time is racing away from me as quickly as I try to get things organised.  We’ve been on a few walks – in fact as we’re trying to fit in more walks, and don’t laugh, we’ve downloaded Pokemon Go and we’re collecting critters as we mooch about.  On top of that, we’ve moved onto series 3 of American Horror – liking this one already, it’s all about witches.  And in terms of reading I’ve been making my way each night through The Emerald Circus by Jane Yolen – which, given that I don’t usually like short stories has gone very well.  And Kill Creek – which was really good and gave me the goosebumps.

Anyway, hope you all had a good week.

  1. Kill Creek by Scott Thomas
  2. The Emerald Circus by Jane Yolen
  3. The Saga of Dirt and Poncho by Clayton Baker, Michael Kuecker
  1. War Witch by Layla Nash
  2. Jack Bloodfist: Fixer by James Jakins
  3. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Upcoming reviews:

  1. A Matter of Blood by Sarah Pinborough
  2. Starborn by Lucy Hounsom
  3. The City of Brass (The Daevabad Trilogy #1) by S.A. Chakraborty
  4. The Naturalist by Andrew Mayne
  5. Kill Creek by Scott Mayne

Let me know what you’re reading this week.

Halloween is almost here – hope you’re all reading something spooky.  Last week I managed a few books.  I read the second Spellslinger book by Sebastien De Castell – what a great series, entertaining and fun.  I also read and loved Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Dogs of War – that was unexpected in that I started it and thought it was going to be maybe too much focus on military type affairs for my liking – I was wrong.  I’ve also read Weave a Circle Round and I’m about a third through Andy Livingstone’s Hero Risen.  I also completed my fourth batch of SPFBO books and made a start on my fifth set – updates to follow. Hope you’ve all had a good week.

  1. Spellslinger 2: Shadowblack by Sebastien De Castell
  2. Dogs of War by Adrian Tchaikovsky
  3. Weave a Circle Round by Kari Maaren

Next week’s reads (hopefully):

  1. Hero Risen, Seeds of Destiny by Andy Livingstone
  2. Artemis by Andy Weir
  3. The Nine by Tracy Townsend

Upcoming reviews:

  1. A Matter of Blood by Sarah Pinborough
  2. Spellslinger by Sebastien De Castell
  3. Starborn by Lucy Hounsom
  4. Spellslinger 2: Shadowblack by Sebastien De Castell
  5. Dogs of War by Adrian Tchaikovsky
  6. Weave a Circle Round by Kari Maaren

Let me know what you’re reading this week.

I’ve had a busy week somehow (although I’d be hard pressed to say exactly why), although my daughter and her boyfriend came to stay with us for a few days and we went out and about quite a bit.  I managed to read one of the books off my list last week (the first Spellslinger book) which I loved, I’m going to pick up No.2 shortly, I decided it was probably not the best idea to read them back to back.  And, I’ve also read Starborn.

This week I’m hoping to get to:

  1. Spellslinger 2: Shadowblack by Sebastien De Castell
  2. Hero Risen, Seeds of Destiny by Andy Livingstone

Upcoming reviews:

  1. The Stone in the Skull by Elizabeth Bear (which I loved)
  2. The Crow Garden by Alison Littlewood
  3. A Matter of Blood by Sarah Pinborough
  4. Spellslinger by Sebastien De Castell
  5. Starborn by Lucy Hounsom

Let me know what you’re reading this week.
