Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book (this doesn’t have to be a book that you’ve read), compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. I’ve also listed events that take place during the year, that I’m aware of, so you can link up your covers – if you’re aware of any events that you think I should include then give me a shout. A Standout Font
I think everyone should be able to find something good for this week’s theme. I had one specific book in mind for this week’s topic, I might have used this book for a different prompt but I couldn’t resist. I’m facing off two sets of covers. This week The Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff:

Well, it’s difficult to choose this week. I love the design of the top row of covers. I love the way they’re so well co-ordinated, critters on the front and lots of little details when you really zoom in.
But, on the other hand – look at those fonts for the second set. The covers are deliciously dark too and also when you zoom in you find some incredible backdrops.
I wasn’t going to choose a favourite this week because I like both sets – but, if push came to shove, if you really twisted my arm or it was a life or death situation, I think the top set just wins – for one reason, because the second set changed the font colour to white and the previous two covers were red – it grates on me just a little bit. I can’t help it, don’t judge me now.

A very busy cover full to bursting with detail
I thought this week’s theme was a little easier than last week’s which for some reason I struggled with (minimalist covers) – this week the theme went to the extreme opposite by seeking a busy cover. I went for a book I read some time ago, the cover from the version I read has all sorts of little details that pick up things from the book. This week my books is Tempest Rising (Jane True #1)by Nicole Peeler and here are the covers:
The first cover is the one that I had in mind for this week’s theme. It has all sorts of little details around the outskirts, coffins, critters, strings of lights, serpents. Then we have the central picture of the main character which also has plenty of detail – right down to the fact that you can see her legs beneath the surface of the water. This is definitely my favourite:
I think this cover also provides a good idea of the sort of read you’ll be getting into. Light, fun, supernatural, not too serious. To be honest, it was a book that I enjoyed at the time so perhaps I should have read more.

Minimalistic, lacking clutter
Yikes I struggled with this theme! I hope everyone else found it a little easier. Anyway, I went with the cover of a very well known fantasy series that I think fits this week’s theme well. A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire #1) by George RR Martin. And here are a few of the covers:
The first cover is the one that I owned and is the simplistic style that I had in mind for this week’s theme. The second to last cover has a similar simple style that I quite like but my favourite this week:
I just love the scale of this one (it couldn’t be further away from minimalist though).

A cover with a pattern
I can’t wait to see what everyone came up with this week – I’m thinking that there has to be a few possibilities for this theme. I’m pleased this week to be able to return to another one of my more recent books. An unusual tale based in Australia and filled with unusual folklore : Flyaway by Kathleen Jennings. Not a lot of covers for this one but both are perfect for this week’s theme:

Both the covers are similar and I like both but I prefer the cleaner look of this one and the font appeals to be more than the all capitals approach on the dark cover.
