Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book (this doesn’t have to be a book that you’ve read), compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below – if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme. I’ve also listed events that take place during the year, that I’m aware of, so you can link up your covers – if you’re aware of any events that you think I should include then give me a shout. This week’s theme:
Minimalistic, lacking clutter
Yikes I struggled with this theme! I hope everyone else found it a little easier. Anyway, I went with the cover of a very well known fantasy series that I think fits this week’s theme well. A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire #1) by George RR Martin. And here are a few of the covers:
The first cover is the one that I owned and is the simplistic style that I had in mind for this week’s theme. The second to last cover has a similar simple style that I quite like but my favourite this week:
I just love the scale of this one (it couldn’t be further away from minimalist though).
I’ll be updating the list in order to include forthcoming events that I’m aware of so that you can perhaps link your themes up where possible (if you know of an event you’d like to share then let me know in the comments). As always, if you wish to submit an idea then leave me a comment – or if you’d like to host a week then simply let me know.
Next week – A very busy cover full to bursting with detail
Future themes: (if you’re struggling with any of these themes then use a ‘freebie’ or one of your favourite covers) (I’ve added some new themes – some of these are slightly different, in order to avoid too much repetition I’m trying to make the themes more of a suggestion that everyone can interpret how they like.

11th December – Lake – the mysterious lake
18th December – Highly Stylised
25th December- Freebie – or day off.
This cover is striking! Though I agree – it’s not exactly minimalist 😄
Nope, nothing minimalistic about that one – but I do love it.
Lynn 😀
[…] was to compare UK and US book covers and decide which is we prefer. This meme is being nurtured by Lynn’s Book Blog and this week we are featuring MINIMALIST covers. I’ve selected The Hound of the Baskervilles – […]
Lol… love the fact that your choice isn’t minimalist:)). But I cannot deny that it’s a cracking cover! My favourite is the one of Sean Bean sitting on THAT throne looking a bit agonised. *In a bragging tone of voice* I’ve actually sat on that throne, so I know why he’s looking so uncomfortable – it’s REALLY nobbley…
Haha, – I’ve heard that that throne is very uncomfortable, and I do like the Sean Bean cover – because, Sean Bean – what’s not to like.
Lynn 😀
Oh absolutely! And he does agonised so very beautifully…
Indeed he does 😀
I like the covers where the actual throne from the TV series is shown, but I have to admit that your choice portrays the cold and the barrenness of the land around the Wall quite well… 🙂
Yep, I think the cover really portrays the wall very well indeed.
Lynn 😀
I love your favorite too, although if I’d just seen it at another time, I would never have guessed it was A Game of Thrones😁
Yes, it’s so very different from the original covers that just have a fixed place in our minds. I love that cover though.
Lynn 😀
Hi Lynn! Great choice! But I actually like the one with the throne of swords most.
I’ve only read the first two and a half and only watched about 3 episodes. And then I couldn’t anymore…
Hope you will have a wonderful weekend!
Here’s my Weekend Book Friends #9
I hope you have a fantastic weekend too 😀
Oh I do love the cover you went with here, Lynn, it feels very classic without overwhelming the cover with too much stuff going on.
Yeah, I love it – it feels so epic somehow.
Lynn:D
Yeah there are styles across the board for this book! The one you chose is a nice one, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before!
I’d never seen that cover either but I love the scope
Lynn 😀
The cover with Ned Stark on in the chair (I assume it’s Ned) is my fav. That chair just easily draw my eye.
Oh yes, -that chair! Plus Ned Stark.
Lynn 😀
