Well, this week my reading has virtually disappeared.  I don’t think I’ve ever read so little in one week for a very long time!  In fairness we went on a short trip to Iceland and sometimes your trips away are not the sort that involve chilling out with a book and a long drink!  In fact all my plans have gone along the route of ‘the best laid plans’.

Last week’s reads:

Danse Macabre by Laura M Hughes – thank you Laura for redeeming my reading slightly! This is a dark novelette and my review will follow.

Currently reading:

  1. Blood Upon the Sand by Bradley P Beaulieu
  2. The Ninth Rain by Jen Williams
  3. The Winter Long by Seanan McGuire

Next week I’m hoping to complete two of the above!  And, perhaps start In Calabria by Peter S Beagle.

And, finally, my cover compare this week is Danse Macabre by Laura M Hughes:

My favourite cover is this one:

I like the title font for this (which is also the same on the first cover) but I like the colour contrast too.

How was your week?  What you currently reading?

So, this week, wow, I’ve been so busy in work that it’s taken over a little bit.  Still, them’s the breaks.  You have to be pragmatic, I work to pay the bills and buy the books!

Reading wise I’ve read With Blood Upon the Sand.  I’ve only just started In Calabria so that will be for the following week now.

Last week’s reads:

  • With Blood Upon the Sand by Bradley P Beaulieu

Next week I’m hoping to complete:

  1. In Calabria by Peter S Beagle
  2. The Ninth Rain by Jen Williams (The Winnowing Flame Trilogy #1)

And, finally, my cover compare this week is a book that I’m hoping to squeeze in as a backburn book – we’ll see:

My favourite cover is this one:

Weekly wrap up 29/1/17

January is coming to an end – I hope you’ve all had a great month.  I can’t believe how quickly the time has flown.

Reading wise I finished one of the books I highlighted last week and started the other. I finished the readalong of Chimes at Midnight which I loved. Reviews to come:  Deadlight Jack, Chimes at Midnight, Dawn Study and The Black Wolves of Boston.

Last week’s reads:

  • The Grey Bastards by Jonathan French, which is my SPFBO book – I’m currently reading this one and so far so good.
  • The Black Wolves of Boston by Wen Spencer – urban fantasy and evil Wickers – I completed the Black Wolves and my review will follow shortly.

Next week I’m hoping to complete:

  1. Blood Upon the Sand by Bradley Beaulieu – I CANNOT wait to read this.  Twelve Kings was so, so, good.
  2. In Calabria by Peter S Beagle – because, great writing and unicorns.

And, finally, my cover compare this week:

What are you currently reading?

Weekly wrap up 22/1/17

lala
So, another Sunday where I look back over the past week with a weekly wrap up post.  I went to see LaLa Land last week – and I loved it – I would go and see it again without hesitation.  It has a lovely old style musical charm to it, is beautifully shot and for a modern day film there is no swearing sex or violence – it doesn’t always feel easy to find a film like that these days and it was a lovely refreshing change!

Reading wise I finished a couple of my books and started the third one.  I read the third instalment of Chimes at Midnight which I’m loving.  I have three reviews to catch up with at this point.

Last week’s reads:

Dawn Study by Maria V Snyder.  Fans of this series, I think, will love the way this concludes.  A definite 4* end to series I thought.  Review to follow shortly.

Department Zero – a crazy story with plenty of non-stop action.  The start scared the bejesus out out of me with the spiders!  Feels like Lovecraft meets the Men in Black.  Highly entertaining.  Review to follow shortly.

Deadlight Jack by Mark Onspaugh – I’ve just started this one.  The start was very curious indeed and really drew me in – I have that certain feeling – the one you have when you really feel like you’re going to enjoy a book!

Next week I’m hoping to complete:

  1. The Grey Bastards, which is my SPFBO book – this is receiving some very favourable reviews and I’m really looking forward to picking it up.
  2. The Black Wolves of Boston by Wen Spencer – urban fantasy and evil Wickers – how could I resist??  Sounds amazing.

I also need to complete Rosewater – which I made a good start on at about 30% and am looking forward to getting back to.

And, finally, my cover compare this week:

I can see the reasoning for the grey cover with the stylised dragon on it but it isn’t as colourfully dramatic as the first.  My choice this week:

naam1

Which is your favourite – and what are you currently reading?

Another weekly wrap up post.

This week has flown by.  Reading wise I read a couple of books.  Made about 30% progress on another, finished the final instalment of my readalong of Naamah’s Kiss and read the second instalment of Chimes at Midnight for one of my other readalongs (review to follow).

To my books:

Caraval by Stephanie Garber – I’ve completed this one and really enjoyed it.  My review to follow shortly.

Rosewater by Tade Thompson – about 30% into this book – very intriguing so far.

Heartstone by Elle Katharine White.  I really enjoyed this.  A retelling of Pride and Prejudice with dragons and other beasties.  Another book with the review to follow shortly.

My reading this week is hopefully going to include:

Dawn Study by Maria V Snyder – hello there!  The final instalment of the Poison Study series.  Oh hell yes.

Deadlight Jack by Mark Onspaugh – because apparently – ‘Worse things than gators lurk in the Louisiana swamp’

Department Zero by Mark Crilley. ‘THE END OF THE UNIVERSE IS ONLY A HOP, SKIP, AND SLIGHT STUMBLE-THROUGH-A-WORMHOLE AWAY’

And, finally, my cover compare this week:

I would say that the middle cover, being similar to the original style, is my favourite, but, in actual fact I have a strange love of this cover:

Are you looking forward to any of these books?
