Weekly Wrap Up : 10/2/19

I’m finally getting round to reinstating my weekly wrap ups.  I need to do these posts as they keep a log of the books I’ve read and also help to keep me focused on upcoming books and outstanding reviews.  So, this week I’ve read two books and for the moment I’m keeping on top of my reviews.  I do have four more SPFBO reviews still outstanding but I’m slowly making progress.

My books:

  1. The Ruin of Kings (A Chorus of Dragons #1) by Jenn Lyons
  2. Thornbound (The Harwood Spellbook #2) by Stephanie Burgis

Next week’s reads:

  1. The Taking of Annie Thorne C. J. Tudor
  2. White Stag by Kara Barbieri
  3. The Orphanage of Gods by Helena Coggan

Upcoming reviews:

  1. The Ruin of Kings (A Chorus of Dragons #1) by Jenn Lyons
  2. Thornbound (The Harwood Spellbook #2) by Stephanie Burgis

I’d love to know what you’re reading this week.

Hope everyone’s had a good week.  The temperature has dropped suddenly, I feel like Christmas is only round the corner and, of course, I’m not at all organised.  Not a problem, Christmas Eve is the perfect day for getting ready I always feel.  So, I’ve read two books this week and I’m over half into a third so a good deal of reading, and I’ve managed to catch up with a few reviews.

My books:

IMG_5091Hi all.  Hope you’ve all been having a good week.  This week we’ve been in Porto which is a really beautiful city. Yesterday I visited the above bookshop which was visited (so I’m told) many times by JK Rowling during the time she spent in Portugal and was inspirational in certain areas of her writing.  What do you think?  Anyway, reading plans straight out the window.  Sorry this isn’t the best picture but google Livraria Lello to get a better idea online.  I completed only one book this week, Songwoman by Ilka Tampke.  This is the second book by this author, I really enjoyed the first book Skin and Songwoman picks up from where that left off.  Think of Celtic Britain and the Roman invasion.  Rich with detail and very character driven this is a great historic read that takes us back to an era full of superstition and folklore.  I really enjoyed it.

  1. Songwoman by Ilka Tampke

Howdy everyone.  Hope you’ve all been having a good week.  My plans have kind of gone out the window in many ways but it really doesn’t matter does it?  Plans are like rules – made for breaking? I’ve read four books this week, which sounds like a lot of reading but in fact I did start two of these books the previous week so I was just finishing things I’d already started – although I now need to do some more catching up with reviews of course.  I’ve had some very good reading.  I went off plan a little although I did read three of the books on my list so I’m not going to beat myself up.  I loved the second Heartstone book – it was great.  An Easy Death was very easy going and what I’ve come to expect from Charlaine Harris and Shadow of the Fox was a great Japanese inspired fantasy quest.  MR Carey’s Someone Like Me – I couldn’t resist picking it up and it was compelling indeed.  So, my books this past week:

  1. An Easy Death by Charlaine Harris
  2. Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa
  3. Dragonshadow (Heartstone #2) by Elle Katharine White
  4. Someone Like Me by MR Carey

Next week’s reads:

  1. Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean
  2. Songwoman by Ilka Tampke

Upcoming reviews:

  1. Starborn by Lucy Hounsom
  2. Envy of Angels by Matt Wallace
  3. Noir by Christopher Moore
  4. Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers
  5. The Tethered Mage by Melissa Caruso
  6. In the Night Wood by Dale Bailey
  7. The Winters by Lisa Gabriele
  8. An Easy Death by Charlaine Harris
  9. Dragonshadow (Heartstone #2) by Elle Katharine White
  10. Someone Like Me by MR Carey

I’d love to know what you’re reading this week.

We’re into November.  I can’t believe it’s the 4th already.  This week I started out by speeding through The Winters by Lisa Gabriele which is a retelling of Rebecca that was really good – my review will follow shortly.  I also read Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward and loved that too and I’ve also read about a third of An Easy Death by Charlaine Harris and started Julie Kagawa’s Shadow of the Fox. I hope you’ve all had a good week.  Here are my reads from last week.

  1. Skyward by Brandon Sanderson
  2. The Winters by Lisa Gabriele

Next week’s reads (obviously I won’t read all of these but I’ve started two already so three might be possible):

  1. An Easy Death by Charlaine Harris
  2. Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa
  3. Dragonshadow (Heartstone #2) by Elle Katharine White
  4. Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean

Upcoming reviews:

  1. Starborn by Lucy Hounsom
  2. Envy of Angels by Matt Wallace
  3. Noir by Christopher Moore
  4. Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers
  5. The Tethered Mage by Melissa Caruso
  6. In the Night Wood by Dale Bailey
  7. Skyward by Brandon Sanderson
  8. The Winters by Lisa Gabriele

I’d love to know what you’re reading this week.
