IMG_5091Hi all.  Hope you’ve all been having a good week.  This week we’ve been in Porto which is a really beautiful city. Yesterday I visited the above bookshop which was visited (so I’m told) many times by JK Rowling during the time she spent in Portugal and was inspirational in certain areas of her writing.  What do you think?  Anyway, reading plans straight out the window.  Sorry this isn’t the best picture but google Livraria Lello to get a better idea online.  I completed only one book this week, Songwoman by Ilka Tampke.  This is the second book by this author, I really enjoyed the first book Skin and Songwoman picks up from where that left off.  Think of Celtic Britain and the Roman invasion.  Rich with detail and very character driven this is a great historic read that takes us back to an era full of superstition and folklore.  I really enjoyed it.

  1. Songwoman by Ilka Tampke

Songwoman

  1. Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean
  2. The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley

Upcoming reviews:

  1. Starborn by Lucy Hounsom
  2. Envy of Angels by Matt Wallace
  3. Noir by Christopher Moore
  4. Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers
  5. The Tethered Mage by Melissa Caruso
  6. An Easy Death by Charlaine Harris
  7. Dragonshadow (Heartstone #2) by Elle Katharine White
  8. Songwoman by Ilka Tampke

I’d love to know what you’re reading this week.

Oh wow, that bookstore looks like fun, and if Rowling really did write there, I want to go!

Apparently she was in Portugal teaching for 2 or 3 years and loved this bookshop. It’s more a tourist attraction these days with long queues to go inside. It’s lovely inside but it would be nicer to see it during a quiet period when you could really see the place properly.

What a fabulous building, Lynn! I hope you’re having lovely weather in Porto and be able to relax a bit…

    • @lynnsbooks

Thanks – the weather has been really good. Some rain at times but quite a lot of blue skies and sunshine and warm enough not to need a coat.
      Lynn 😀

Well it’s a WHOLE lot colder than that here! And wet…

I hope you enjoyed your trip! I’d say traveling and seeing new places is a good excuse to not get so much reading done! 😀

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, it can’t be helped – too busy looking round and day tripping.
      Lynn 😀

I hope to visit Portugal next year when I visit my family in Spain. I cannot wait! I bet it is beautiful and yes inspiring! I cannot to get to Empress of All Seasons! hopefully tomorrow 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

Spain and Portugal are both lovely so I hope you enjoy both and have a great time seeing your family.
      Lynn 😀

Hoping you are having a good time in your travels! That bookstore looks amazing!

    • @lynnsbooks

It really is a beautiful bookshop although I’ve never experienced a bookshop so full of people less interested in books. Obviously the JKRowling connection has made the place famous. It’s full of people taking selfies.
      Lynn 😀

Lynn, I love the sound of Songwomanand that bookshop looks amazing. In fact, before I read your post, that shop made me think of Flourish and Blotts 😀 Last week, I finished reading The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan and I started reading Zombie, an anthology of horror and thriller short stories, edited by Christopher Golden.

    • @lynnsbooks

      That bookshop was gorgeous.
Songwoman is a great book and Skin too. I think you would like them both although Songwoman can be read without having read the first.
      Lynn 😀
