Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme being hosted by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite books’ covers. The rules are fairly simple and can be found here. Each week, following a predetermined theme choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Simples. This week the theme is:
All That Is Gold Does Not Glitter
A cover which features gold
It’s almost as though this week’s event has been waiting especially for me. For those of you who visit here occasionally you’ll no doubt know what my choice is going to be. I just can’t help it! I’ve been saving this book and this week’s theme is the perfect fit:
I actually like all these covers. The first is the anniversary edition and I think it’s lovely (plus gold topped mountains so it does feature gold!), the middle book is the book I own and I’m familiar with and love – but the end book (which I also own – is just the book that springs to mind immediately when I think of the Hobbit. Come on, Smaug, is here, with an abundance of gold. Given the title as well this week’s winner for me is:

Check out next week’s theme which is going to be awesome:
17th June | Better a Witty Fool than a Foolish Wit
A cover which features a fool or jester
“A box without hinges, key, or lid,
Yet golden treasure inside is hid.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit
Big Bada Boom

In The Beginning There Was Nothing, Which Exploded
A cover which features an explosion
This was a tough one I have to confess. I’ve gone for the third book in the 5th Wave series by Rick Yancey – and I’m sad to say I haven’t started this one yet even though I do have the first book at least ready and waiting patiently. Anyway, No.3 is called the Last Star. Check out the covers:
I think this fits the theme and for me the winner has to be the second cover. It looks like an explosion in the background plus I like the colours and the imagery with the person stood on what looks like a piece of debris.
My winner this week:

Join us next week when the theme will be:
All That Is Gold Does Not Glitter
A cover which features gold
“Sting is my name, I am the spider’s bane.”

This week rather than go for one book with different covers I’ve gone for four books within a series. The Tiffany Aching series by Terry Pratchett:
I love this series, such good fun and the wee free men are awesome. In terms of covers I really like all of these – okay, the first one doesn’t feature a witch but the other three do. I think out of them all it’s a difficult choice between I Shall Wear Midnight and Wintersmith. I almost went for a tie but I admit that although I love he feel of the Midnight book Wintersmith takes the biscuit for me. I love that cover. It’s so lovely.

Next week the theme is:
Just Then Flew Down a Monstrous Crow
A cover which features a bird

You Got The Blues
A cover which is predominantly blue
I had no idea how many blue covers were out there! Wow. Just wow!! The book I’ve chosen this week is from an author I really enjoy reading.
Alice Hoffman’s The River King with three covers as follows:
I’m not overly fond of the hands and fishes cover to be honest. The blurred middle cover – I like the yellow font and the layout. I think my favourite, even though it’s more green than blue is the third cover with the swan: This week’s winner:
