Water, water everywhere, nor any drop to drink!

FFO.jpg

Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy .   This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers.  The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite.   Future week’s themes are listed below. This week’s theme:

Ocean “What would an ocean be without a monster lurking in the dark? It would be like sleep without dreams”

This week’s choice is: Lagoon by Nnedi Okorafor:

 And my winner is:

lagoon1

I think this is a great cover.  Your eye is drawn immediately to the young female who seems to be suspended in water and surrounded by tentacles – then you realise the city depicted along the top seems to be being swamped in some sort of tidal fury!

Which is your favourite?

Next week’s theme:

Clown “Nobody likes a clown at midnight”

Give a Girl the Right Shoes and she can conquor the world – a cover with shoes

This week my choice is the Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L Frank Baum – inspired by the Ruby Slippers. (believe me when I say there are A LOT of covers for this book, and I don’t intend to post them all because life is too short.  But here are a few and some of these are absolutely gorgeous:

It was really tough choosing a winner because these are all so lovely but when it came down to it I was torn between the picture with Toto on the Yellow Brick Road; or

I love this cover.  It’s so striking and it just makes me want to keep looking at it.  The cover I own is the one with the fruit (could have used that one last week!)

I just like the scope of it – the tiny figures in the background, the crispness – it makes me feel cold just looking at it and of course mountains.
