“Fifteen years was a long time to be stranded anywhere, particularly somewhere as mind-boggingly dull as Earth.”

Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy .   This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers.  The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite.   Future week’s themes are listed below. This week’s theme:

Alien – “Aliens – if they exist-are little green men with big eyes and spindly arms…or giant insects or something like a lumpy little creature”

This week is a no-brainer for me.  The first book I thought of was The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams and below is a small selection of covers that I think covers the alien theme:

I like a few of these I have to admit – the little guy on the bottom row with his suitcase is kind of cute and check out the little white mice!  But this is my favourite:

1995 Turtleback

Do not ask me why but it just gives me a Howl’s Moving Castle vibe!   Next week: two choices – either Playing Cards or covers that are mostly the colour green.

Which is your favourite?

Future themes:

03/03/2017 – Playing cards “Life is not a matter of holding good cards, but of playing a poor hand well” or – Spring: a cover that is mainly the colour green.

10/03/2017 – School “I never let my schooling interfere with my education”

17/03/2017 – Bird “Some birds are not meant to be caged, that’s all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs are too sweet and wild”

24/03/2017 – Street lamp “He stood under the street lamp, sleet settling in his hair, hands fisted at his side”

31/03/2017 – Casino “Whisky, gambling and Ferraris are better than housework “

07/04/2017 – Circus “You can get the monkey off your back, but the circus never leaves town!

14/04/2017 – Easter “The rabbit of Easter. He bring of the chocolate”

21/04/2017 – Bridge “I demolish my bridges behind me…then there is no choice but to push forward”

28/04/2017 – Beach/Seaside”Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!”

05/05/2017 – Lion “If you place your head in a lion’s mouth, then you cannot complain one day if he happens to bite it off”

12/05/2017 – Phone “Don’t use the phone. People are never ready to answer it”

19/05/2017 – Plane “When everything seem to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it ….”

26/05/2017 – Mice “Of all the words of mice and men, the saddest are, ‘it might have been’…”

02/06/2017 – Moon “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars”

09/06/2017 – Mummy “It shuffles through the dry, dusty darkness”

23/06/2017 – Cat “In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods; they have not forgotten this”

  1. Captain's Quarters

Definitely the one with the mice. Cute! The first mate and some of me crew recently watched the movie. It was different that’s for sure. Though the book was better I thought the adaptation was decent.
    x The Captain

    • @lynnsbooks

Completely agree – the film was decent but the book was better 😀

  2. parichitasingh

My favorite is the second one in the first row. The planets teasing me because I did not know what 42 is until I opened the book. 😛

  3. maddalena@spaceandsorcery

The green smiley-like alien is indeed a winner, although I also like the last cover in the second row: that fish is far too cute… 😀

  4. sjhigbee

Oh, this is a good choice, Lynn:). My favourite is the first one – colourful and eye-catching, I like the references to the book.

  5. Carmen

I like the first one in the last row, very catchy.

  6. Nathan

Man, some horrible covers for such a great book.

    • @lynnsbooks

Aww, I think some of these are cute! Look at the mice after all!
      Lynn 😀

  7. Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum

Hmm, this is a tough one. I’m not sure I feel drawn to any one of them in particular, but I think the last one with all the psychedelic colors is pretty cool 😀

    • @lynnsbooks

That’s the one I own so I always have a soft spot.
      Lynn 😀

  8. jessicabookworm

I love The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy 🙂 Our copy has the psychedelic cover (last one pictured), but I do like the cheeky alien on your choice too 😀

  9. Amanda @Cover2CoverMom

This book has been on my TBR FOREVER! I really love the first cover too 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

I’ve only read the first one but I loved it and such a lot of great covers.
      Lynn 😀
