“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme that was originally created by Breaking the Spine. Unfortunately Breaking the Spine are no longer hosting so I’m now linking my posts up to Wishful Endings Can’t Wait Wednesday. Don’t forget to stop over, link up and check out what books everyone else is waiting for. If you want to take part, basically, every Wednesday, we highlight a book that we’re really looking forward to. This week my book is : Relight My Fire (Stranger Times #4) by CK McDonnell. I’m loving this series and can’t wait for the next instalment. Here’s the cover and description:

Some comebacks can be murder . . .
Stella is enjoying life as an almost student, or at least she is until a man falls from the sky right in front of her, leaving a big old hole in the pavement for Manchester Council to fill. The obvious question of how he ended up in the sky in the first place has no obvious answers, which is where The Stranger Times come in. This isn’t just the hunt for another story though. Dark powers think Stella might have been involved and the only way she and the team can prove her innocence is to find out what the hell is really going on. What have dodgy gear, disturbed graves and a decommissioned rock star got to do with all this?
Vincent Banecroft has problems of his own in the form of a tall, dark but-definitely-not-handsome man dressed like a one-man funeral who has been sent to make the paper’s editor atone for his sins. Once he finds out exactly what that entails, Banecroft is not keen. Being banished to a Hellscape for all eternity looks like being no fun at all, not least because he has that pale Irish skin that burns really easily . . .
All that plus territorial ghouls, homicidal felines, eternal (and seemingly unstoppable) gnomes and a celebrity ‘Who’s Who’ that’d put a royal wedding to shame, and you’re looking at a wild few days for The Stranger Times .

My Five Word TL:DR Review: I am loving this series

Okay, let’s just cut to the chase. It’s been a while since I read this book and yet the feeling of absolute adoration for this series still feels strong. So, that being said I’m going to post up the blurb for the book before I begin That way I can focus on my feelings without going into the description too much:
“Marriages are tricky at the best of times, especially when one of you is dead.
Vincent Banecroft, the irascible editor of The Stranger Times, has never believed his wife died despite emphatic evidence to the contrary. Now, against all odds, it seems he may actually be proved right; but what lengths will he go to in an attempt to rescue her?
With Banecroft distracted, the shock resignation of assistant editor, Hannah Willis, couldn’t have come at a worse time. It speaks volumes that her decision to reconcile with her philandering ex-husband is only marginally less surprising than Banecroft and his wife getting back together. In this time of crisis, is her decision to swan off to a fancy new-age retreat run by a celebrity cult really the best thing for anyone?
As if that wasn’t enough, one of the paper’s ex-columnists has disappeared, a particularly impressive trick seeing as he never existed in the first place.
Floating statues, hijacked ghosts, homicidal cherubs, irate starlings, Reliant Robins and quite possibly several deeply sinister conspiracies; all-in-all, a typical week for the staff of The Stranger Times.”
So, for me this is a series that is going from strength to strength. If you love urban fantasy I strongly think you should pick this one up. I can’t deny that the connection to Manchester and all the other connotations are strong for me but I seriously don’t think that alone would be enough to make me enjoy this so much. The characters are great, I love them all and I don’t want any of them to come to harm. The setting is well done. Contemporary, ironic, sarcastic. I mean, I just love it. The plots are original, the dialogue is spot on and I can’t wait to read more.
This is a short review but that isn’t a reflection on how I feel for this book or this series. I heartily recommend this series to readers who enjoy urban fantasy, contemporary settings, batshit crazy happenings, a great cast of characters that feel like ‘found family’. I literally can’t wait to see what comes nest.
I received a copy through Netgalley, courtesy of the publishers, for which my thanks. The above is my own opinion.
My rating : 5 of 5 stars

Today is day 30 of my countdown to 2023 – woot, only one day remaining. Today’s prompt is ‘Family and Friends ’. The prompts can be found here if you want to join in. I’m hoping to use mostly books read this year. Let’s begin:
FAMILY AND FRIENDS (A book with great characters)
I’ve gone for a series that I’m really enjoying and where the characters are fantastic. This is an urban fantasy based in Manchester in the UK (so I confess I have a soft spot immediately for that reason alone) but, on top of that this is packed with great imagination and I love reading it. The Stranger Times series by CK McDonnell. Book 1 is The Stranger Times, followed by This Charming Man and the most recent instalment Love Will Tear Us Apart which was just amazing. My review will be up soon.

When is a review not a review? When it’s a teaser.
I recently finished Love Will Tear Us Apart, the third episode in CK McDonnell’s Stranger Times series and, hand on heart, it was my favourite so far. This is urban fantasy that really delivers. I absolutely love it.
I will be posting a full review closer to the date but for now – this was my initial reaction:

‘Oh my giddy aunt. This is a series that just keeps getting better. I absolutely love it and this is my favourite to date, which bearing in mind Nos. 1 and 2 were also pretty damn fine, is no small thing.
I’m not writing a full review at this point – that will be posted closer to release date – the point of this is to whet your appetite. If you’re looking for a quirky, mystery filled, modern era fantasy series packed with all sorts of supernatural critters, a fantastic ‘found family’ in the form of the Stranger Times publication employees, banter, seriously ‘strange things’, drama, tension and heart in the throat endings, stop looking. Here you go. You’re welcome.
Word to the wise, don’t crash into this series, go back to the first book otherwise you’ll be missing so much goodness.
The ending of this brought tears to my eyes – me! I don’t do crying.
No pressure McDonnell but when is No.4 due?’
All I can say is that this is a series that gives me serious ‘feels’. If you’re looking for your next great hook then I implore you to give this a chance.
The Stranger Times and This Charming Man are the first two books in the series.
