Weekly Update
Hey everyone. Hope you’re all doing well. I’m starting to tentatively ease back into blogging and I’ve started to catch up with reviews although I still have a few to post. My reading is good though and I’m enjoying the books I’m picking up very much. This week I have been busy with lots of going out and socialising – it’s that time of year – so slightly less reading than normal but I read The Austen Christmas Murders by Jessica Bull, I’m enjoying this series of books very much and this was a very intriguing read. I’ve also started Too Old For This by Samantha Downing which I’m really enjoying – oddly enough as it’s about a retired serial killer – the dark humour is very good (thanks Tammy).
Next Week’s reads
I’d like to finish reading Too Old for This and then my next read will be The Blackfire Blade by James Logan. I’ll also be posting on Monday about my ‘Countdown to Christmas’ which I will be once again hosting if you care to join in – there’s a list of prompts and no rules!

I’m trying to post a wrap up for the end of each month, mainly to help me to keep track of my reading and at the same time look at what I’m intending to read during the month ahead (inspired by Books Bones and Buffy’s What’s on My Plate.
This month’s wrap up post will be a bit messy again like last month’s because I’m combining it with my weekly wrap up.
Weekly Update
Well, I’ve had my six week check up and my hip is progressing well. I’ve not been using any walking aids for about three weeks and I’ve been keeping up with the exercises and so far so good. In the past week I continued with some of my September reads and completed No Friend to This House by Natalie Haynes which started a little slow and then won me over, The Ghosts of Merry Hall by Heather Davey which I did have a few issues with and I also read A Honeymoon of Grave Consequence by Stephanie Burgis – which I really enjoyed and crammed into one delicious sitting.
Next Week’s reads
I shall be continuing with my September review books so will be picking up The Faerie Morgana by Louisa Morgan, No Women Were Harmed by Heather Mottershead and maybe I’ll have time for a third and check out The Naked Light by Bridget Collins.

My Monthly Wrap Up:
Books read in August:
- The Dead Husband Cookbook by Danielle Valentine
- Hemlock and Silver by T Kingfisher
- Forget Me Not by Stacy Willingham
- Damned by Genevieve Cogman
- This Vicious Hunger by Francesca May
- Play Nice by Rachel Harrison
- The Hexologists: A Tangle of Time by Josiah Bancroft
- This Monster of Mine by Shalini Abeysekara
- No Friend to This House by Natalie Haynes
- The Ghosts of Merry Hall by Heather Davey
- A Honeymoon of Grave Consequence by Stephanie Burgis
I’ve had a very good reading month reading 11 books, I completed all my August review books and even made a dent in some of my September reads. No DNFs this month fortunately.
Here’s what I’m hoping to read in September (and I’ve already read three so should be able to tuck into my October books all going well – good thing too as I have quite a few books that month):
- No Friend to this House by Natalie Haynes – read rtf
- The Ghosts of Merry Hall by Heather Davey – read rtf
- The Faerie Morgana by Louisa Morgan
- No Women Were Harmed by Heather Mottershead
- The Naked Light by Bridget Collins
- A Honeymoon of Grave Consequence by Stephanie Burgis – read rtf

Lets just be honest – I’m not doing well so far – I need to give my head a big 0wobble.

No. 3 – an apple on a leafy branch – Hemlock and Silver by T Kingfisther

No. 11 – An Old Mechanical Typewriter – The Bewitching by Silvia Moreno Garcia

No.6 – A Human Skull – I’m using The Man Made of Smoke by Alex North – because this is about a serial killer and there are definite human remains included in this one.

Books read this week:
Another week of lovely weather. Time spent with friends. And, some good reading. I read The Enchanted Greenhouse by Sarah Beth Durst – this is a very cosy, sweet read. I maybe didn’t enjoy it quite as much as The Spellshop but it was still a warm hug. I also started to listen to The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig which I’m really enjoying so far. Next I picked up It Was Her House First by Cherie Priest – this is really good so far and it’s proving to be a quick read, I’m already halfway through. So, what have you been reading??
Next Week’s Reads:
Hopefully complete The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig, I think I’ll probably complete the Cherie Priest book this evening and next on my shelves I’m thinking to read My Ex, the AntiChrist by Craig DiLouie – I’m really excited to read this one. I then need to decide between either Another Fine Mess by Lindy Ryan or The Library at Hellebore by Cassandra Khaw.

Books read this week:
Being late seems to be a theme for me at the moment! I’m still reading and catching up but still keeping busy in other news and that’s set to continue for this week. So, hopefully, next week, maybe things will be a bit calmer, I’ll catch up with absolutely everything and live happily ever after – it could happen. I did manage to complete Grave Empire by Richard Swan and in fact already reviewed it. Spoiler alert – I loved it. In an attempt to get ahead a little with my SPFBO books I’ve already read another finalist which I enjoyed and I’m almost through the fourth one I picked up. I need to start writing some reviews for these in the forthcoming week. Once I complete this fourth finalist I’m going to be picking up some February review books. Definitely Emily Wilde’s Compendium of Lost Tales by Heather Fawcett and The Crimson Road by AG Slatter. I’m really looking forward to both of these and so I have no doubt they’ll be quick reads. Lets see if I can finish my current SPFBO book and the above two. Stranger things have happened.
Hopefully I will have finished my fourth finalist which means I can pick up one of the two books mentioned above. So excited!

Books read this week:
I think I’ve made my own personal history this week by not reading a single book. Well, to be fair, I’m pretty sure that’s happened before from time to time but I can’t remember when that last happened. Which isn’t to say that I’m not enjoying my current read, more that I’ve been busy with other things. I’m about 60% into The Last Hour Between Worlds by Melissa Caruso so hopefully I’ll finish this tomorrow, I’m enjoying it and looking forward to seeing how things play out. In blogging I’ve caught up with comments and been blog hopping too. I’ve also nearly caught up with reviews and I’m hoping to get fully updated this week, fingers crossed for that – although I’ve probably just doomed myself to failure.
Next Week’s Reads:
Complete The Last Hour Between Worlds and then pick up Titanchild by Jen Williams. I’ve also picked up the audio book for the Fury of the Gods so hopefully I’m going to start reading and listening soon.
