Sunday Post

I’m trying to get back into the habit of doing a round-up of the week just completed and also take a look at my plans for the forthcoming week.  I rather got out of the habit of doing so but I would like to reinstate this type of post as I feel it keeps me on track.  So, I’m linking up to The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s  Caffeinated Reviewer.  Without further ado:

Books read this week:

This week has been a good reading week.  Possibly because the books I picked up worked so well for me.  I completed Good Bad Girl by Alice Feeney which I loved.  I then read Thornhedge by T Kingfisher which was a lovely fairytale which gives an alternative view to the story of Sleeping Beauty – again, it was very good, I love her style and she has a fantastic imagination.  Finally, I picked up a book by a favourite author, Alice Hoffman’s The Invisible Hour.  What a beautiful and emotional read.  Very unusual with her trademark inclusion of magic and family dynamics.  I have also picked up another of my SPFBO books. I’m getting close to finishing my batch and I just want to press on but at the same time feel I should perhaps give an update at least.  Perhaps Monday I’ll do a ‘what’s what’ type of post just to keep everyone in the loop.  Of course, with all this reading, the blogging and reviewing has dipped a little but I was so keen to push on with my review books.

So, another busy week and a late post.  We’re making progress with the latest addition to the family.  We had many, many debates about what to call her and eventually could only agree on one possibility – Noodle.  She is doing well.  She loves our other dog Bones and we’re trying to get her into a routine.  She’s very nervous so putting her lead on is challenging to say the least.  But, little by little.  Here are the two of them chilling together:

In bookish news. I managed to read Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno Garcia.  I also completed one of my SPFBO books.  I’ve now started to read Good Bad Girl by Alice Feeney.  I also posted another couple of reviews so I’m slowly catching up.

Books read this week:

The past week I’ve had family visiting which has pretty much taken up all my time (and energy – lets just be honest here).  It was lovely to have them stay and the time just flew past so quickly.  It did mean I only managed one post last week, a cover reveal for Phil William’s latest book – However Many Must Die – which looks very exciting.  In bookish news I’ve been beta reading a book which I’ve almost completed (about 50 pages left so hopefully will complete this today).  I’ve managed to start updating my blog in some of the areas that I’ve got very behind with and I did write a couple of reviews – still plenty more to come though – I’m going to list them below which might help me to keep track.  I’ve not completed any reads this week although I have a few on the go.  I’m reading and listening to The Ferryman by Justin Cronin.  This is definitely not a fast read, it’s very measured, I wouldn’t call it exciting at this point but it’s definitely interesting.  I’ve also started reading The Ghost Ship by Kate Mosse – again, not a fast read and it has quite a bit of set up (which is the part I’m reading now), but it’s well written and I’m intrigued.  I also started to read They Lurk by Ronald Malfi.  To be honest I don’t think I’ll complete this one.  I’m not a fan of short stories and normally don’t request them because I know they won’t work for me but I  couldn’t help myself with this author, I’m loving his work – but short stories, they simply don’t do it for me. On the back of putting They Lurk to one side I picked up Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno Garcia which I’m enjoying and about a third of the way in.

Books read this week:

My last Sunday post was so long ago now that I barely know where to start.  I’ve been doing some catching up this week.  A bit of blog hopping plus I’ve managed to post a number of reviews and I feel like I’m making good progress there.

My reading has also been good.  I finished off my final SPFBO book that I already reviewed on Friday.  I also managed to read Games for Dead Girls by Jen Williams and I’m a good third of the way into Jennifter Saint’s Atalanta and enjoying it so far.

Books read this week:

So, dad is still poorly and still in hospital.  I’m currently looking after mum as it’s difficult for her to cope for this length of time not to mention lonely.  I’ve still managed to do some reading and posting but not much time to actually sit down and blog hop.  Hopefully I will catch up with comments and all your posts soon.

This week I managed to complete The Drift by CJ Tudor which I really enjoyed.  I also read All The Blood We Share by Camilla Bruce.  Another author who I’m a bit fixated on at the moment, this is from the work she seems to be enjoying that gives a fictional account of true life serial killers, the previous novel being In the Garden of Spite (or Triflers Need Not Apply as it’s also known).  I’ve also started All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham which gets off to a very intriguing start.  Look at the covers for last week’s reads – don’t you just love it when your covers conspire together to provide matching colours.
