I’m trying to get back into the habit of doing a round-up of the week just completed and also take a look at my plans for the forthcoming week.  I rather got out of the habit of doing so but I would like to reinstate this type of post as I feel it keeps me on track.  So, I’m linking up to The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s  Caffeinated Reviewer.  Without further ado:

Books read this week:

Lots of bad weather this week.  Trees falling down, debris everywhere, outside furniture flying around like magic!  Anyway, in reading news I managed to read and review The Waking of Angantyr by Marie Brennan.  I also read the second of my three SPFBO Semi Finalists which was another very good read, goodness knows how we’re going to choose a finalist.  I’ve also started my third Semi Finalist – once I’ve done I need to post my reviews and then we need some deep discussion before we choose our finalist.

I’m hoping to complete my final SPFBO SF then I have a few review books to try and cram in before the end of the month – although I probably won’t manage to read them all.

I thought I might pick up Constance Sayer’s The Star and the Strange Moon – I’m in the mood for a mystical gothic read.

Books read this week:

Well, this week has been a funny one.  Mainly made up of things going slightly wrong in my bookish universe.  Although nothing too dramatic just a few non starters and formatting issues. This week I read The Pale House Devil by Richard Kadrey which I’m really hoping could be the start of a new series.  I picked up Edenville but I failed to connect with it for some reason so I had to put it down for now.  I was also really keen to dive into Elizabeth Hand’s A Haunting on the Hill but when I opened it on my kindle the formatting was a bit mixed up andallthewordsrantogetherlikethis!  I did try to read it regardless but it was just too difficult.  I’ll buy it for kindle and review it at a later date.  I also picked up The Waking of Angantyr by Marie Brennan.  I’m about 35% into this one.  It’s very different and I’m enjoying it so far.  On the plus side I managed to post three reviews this week.

Complete The Waking of Angantyr and then I have a few choices.  Red River Seven by AJ Ryan or A Haunting in the Arctic by CJ Cooke.

This week I managed to complete and review Once a Monster by Robert Dinsdale which really worked it’s magic on me.  I also completed one of three SPFBO semi finalists chosen by my partners in the competition – spoiler alert – I really enjoyed it and will be reviewing it soon.  And I made a good start on my next book, The Pale House Devil by Richard Kadrey which is very promising.

Next Week’s Reads:

Complete Pale House Devil and then I have choices.  Maybe a Haunting on the Hill by Elizabeth Hand – which I confess I am excited to pick up or maybe some creep factor provided by Edenville by Sam Rebelein.

Oh, this week has been crazy.  Foolishly, or not, we decided to do some Spring cleaning – in Autumn.  So, that became a thing.  We’ve been decorating and cleaning everywhere (probably not the best time of the year to do this but hey ho), anyway, everywhere looks quite refreshed but consequently we’re both a bit tired now.  In reading I’ve almost achieved what I set out to do this month.  I’ve finished my batch of SPFBO books and chosen my three Semi Finalists, during the next month I will be reading those books chosen by the Critiquing Chemist.  I managed to complete However Many Must Die by Phil Williams, I also read A Sword of Bronze and Ashes by Anna Smith Spark – she has a beautiful style of writing although I didn’t total gel with the story.  I’ve also picked up and read about a third of Once A Monster by Robert Dinsdale.  I’m enjoying this so far and so hopefully will make good progress with that in the next couple of days – all going to plan I will have completed all my September review books.

Books read this week:

I had a lovely week, we had visitors staying and it was great to see them and spend quality time together. I completed The Hexologist by Josiah Bancroft which I thoroughly enjoyed, I hope there are many more adventures yet to come from this couple and their fascinating world.  I’ve also made a very good start on However Many Must Die by Phil Williams, I’m about 75% in so should finish that one today.  I did have the mother of all migraines for the past two days though and that rather stopped all reading – well, it pretty much stopped everything other than lying in a dark room.  Anyway.  I have two of my September review books still to complete and I’m hoping to pick these up in the forthcoming week.  In SPFBO news I posted seven reviews this week and also selected my semi finalists (which is probably what brought on that headache – the stress of tough choices eh!).
