Countdown to 2026: Day 10 – Under the Tree – a book you forgot you owned

Once again I am counting down to the New Year, as with the previous years I shall be highlighting at least one book per day to fit the prompt on that given day.  The main aim for this countdown is to highlight some of my reads during the past year and to shine the spotlight on them once again (although some of the prompts relate to forthcoming reads).

Today is Day 10 of the countdown to 2026 and a list of prompts can be found here if you wish to join me in counting down to 2026 and casting a spotlight on some of your favourite books.

Today’s Prompt : Under the Tree – a book you forgot you owned:

American Rapture by CJ Leede (linked to Goodreads)

I read so many good reviews for this that I simply couldn’t resist and bought it for myself so it seems fitting that it takes the prompt for ‘under the tree’ as it truly was a gift (to me)!  To be honest with you I haven’t forgotten this little nugget so much as simply not managed to make time.  Never say never though.

Tomorrow’s prompt: Mistletoe – a little bit of romance

This is a book that I was so excited to buy and yet again it seems to have sat on my shelves, unloved and gathering dust.  It’s not as simple as being forgotten of course, it’s more a question of time – or the lack of it.  Have you read this – do I need to make room regardless and fit this one in??  It does sound good.

Today is day 10 of my countdown to 2024.  Using a series of prompts each day I will post a book title that I believe fits the prompt.  The aim is to highlight as many books as possible that I read from 2023 and shine the spotlight on them once again (although for some prompts I will be looking at future reads).  A list of prompts can be found here if you wish to join me in counting down to 2024.

Girls

The Girls at the Kingfisher Club by Genevieve Valentine.  I bought this ages ago, I’m an absolute sucker for fairytale retellings and this is a reimagining of the twelve dancing princesses but set in Manhattan during the 1920s.  I love the sound of it and really must make time to squeeze it in.

Countdown to 2023 – Day 11 ‘Under the Tree’ (20 days remaining)

IMG_8687-1

Today is day 11 of my countdown to 2023.  Today’s prompt is ‘Mistletoe’ and I’ve chosen a very recent read that was simply lovely, a locked room style, cosy murder mystery with magic, a slightly steamy romance and some crazy characters, not to mention the odd ghost and a talking parrot. The prompts can be found here if you want to join in.  I’m hoping to use mostly books read this year.  Let’s begin:

MISTLETOE (A little bit of romance)

This book was a delight.  I loved it and it fits today’s prompt perfectly.  A Restless Truth (The Last Binding #2) by Freya Marske

Restless

Tomorrow: Holly and Ivy – a book with great world building

UNDER THE TREE (A book you forgot you owned)

I was so excited to buy this book and also in a ridiculous rush to own a copy and yet I still haven’t read it – what is wrong with me *mutter, mutter mutter*.  Piranesi by Susanna Clarke – has anyone read this one yet?

Tomorrow: Mistletoe – a little bit of romance
