This week over at the Broke and Bookish the theme for Top Ten Tuesday is:

‘Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Bringing This Year’

Okay, Santa, I’ve been a good girl this year – I’m definitely on the ‘nice’ list which is handy because this list just barely starts to skim the top of my ‘wish list’.  Apart from the first two books I think all of the others are already available but being Santa I’m sure you can pull a few strings!

  1. The Liar’s Key by Mark Lawrence (No. 2 of the Red Queen’s War)
  2. Voyage of the Basilisk: A Memory by Lady Trent (A Natural History of Dragons No.3) by Marie Brennan
  3. The Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu, Ken Liu
  4. Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone
  5. California Bones by Greg Van Eekhout
  6. Bridge of Birds: A Novel of an Ancient China That Never Was by Barry Hughart
  7. The Bloodhound by Erin Lindsey
  8. Dreamer’s Pool: A Blackthorn & Grim Novel by Juliet Marillier
  9. The Shotgun Arcana (Six Gun Tarot 2)by R. S. Belcher
  10. Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel

I confess that whilst I had some of these on my wishlist people’s ‘best of year’ lists have already started to expand my list!

It’s a pretty nice looking list isn’t it!  What would you like to find in your Christmas stocking this year (please don’t say your foot – or somebody else’s foot – or any sort of twisted version of the ‘foot’ response!)

The best of the best of the best!!! 2014

Top Ten Books I Read In 2014

And my list is:

Okay, I’m just teasing.  I’m not taking part in this week’s topic – purely because I have this crazy notion that I might still fit in one more excellent read before the clock counts down on New Year’s Eve!!! (Maybe even two – come on let’s be optimists!)  Also, I always struggle with this and this year I’ve been very lucky and read a lot of good books which means plenty of tooing and froing and oohing and aahing before I find a list I’m happy with.

What I can say is that on my list there will probably be warriors, cowards, fighting, dragons, slaying, wild and unruly countries, witty repartee or plain grim and downright nasty banter!!

The other thing I will definitely be doing is checking out the other lists – well, I wouldn’t want to miss any possibilities to go on the tbr now would I!!

Where’ve you been hiding all my life???

Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2014

So, without further ado, here they are:

  1. Alex Scarrow – Ellie Quin Series- very entertaining sci fi read
  2. Christopher Moore – Serpent of Venice – omg so good, and so funny
  3. Anthony Ryan – Blood Song- a huge epic fantasy that was such a fast read.
  4. Joe Abercrombie – Half a King – my first Abercrombie – won’t be my last!
  5. Andy Weir – The Martian – if you haven’t heard of The Martian! Well…..
  6. Jeff Vandermeer – Annihilation – creepy, scary…
  7. Tom Lloyd – Moon’s Artifice – excellent fantasy
  8. Angus Watson – Age of Iron – omg so good, when is No.2 out????
  9. M L Brennan – Generation V – if you start no other UF than this – then you’ll still be happy.
  10. Jen Williams – The Copper Promise – i can’t even!  Ok, I can. This book is awesome.  The Copper Cat. That is all.

I confess, I’ve had a good year for new authors.  What about you?

All good things to those who wait…

This week over at the Broke and Bookish the Topic is Top Ten Books Films I’m looking forward to in 2015.  Yes, I’ve cheated a little and decided to list some movies I have my beady eye upon!  Sorry, I know this is a big cheat but (rules are made for breaking an all that!) and, more to the point, as I’ve just done my Winter reads and anticipated sequels fairly recently it was looking likely that I’d be going over some old ground:

  1. Cinderella  – expected March (a bit girlie but so what!)  It’s Cinderella – what’s the worst that can happen? I don’t like it..
  2. Jurassic World – June 2015 – I have to see it right?  I’ve seen all the others and then I can compare and contrast, nit pick, etc.
  3. Terminator: Genisys – July 2015 – just, I’ll be back!!
  4. Ant Man – July 2015 – Marvel, nuff said
  5. Pan – July 2015 – Pan!
  6. Victor Frankenstein – October 2015 – how many Frankenstein films do we really need.  Apparently one more. But, James McAvoy.  That is all.
  7. Crimson Peak – October 2015 – Guilermo del Toro people!
  8. The Martian – November 2015 – mixed feelings about this one.  Will be interesting to see how well they capture the book!
  9. James Bond – November 2015?? – You simply have to watch Bond.  007! Shaken not stirred!
  10. Star Wars: The Force Awakens – December 2015 – Another mixed feelings – I still prefer the original films!  But, who am I trying to kid – I will watch this!  There is no try!

So, books or films – what are you desperate to see released in 2015???

Now is the winter of our content…
