Books read this week:

This has been another busy week.  We’re still coming to terms with our language lessons that are having quite a big impact on how much free time we have. That being said this hasn’t been a bad week for reading although I have quite a few reviews to catch up with now plus I need to answer some comments and check out what you’ve all been up to.  So, books.  This week I read The Witching by CJ Cooke which I really enjoyed.  I really like this author. I also read Run by Blake Couch – this is an unusual concept and I’m still thinking about it.  It was certainly gripping with no end of tension.  I’m also pleased to say that phase 1 of SPFBO is complete  and the ten finalists are now chosen. Check here for more information.

Next Week’s Reads:

I’ve already started You All Die Tonight by Simon Kernick which will  be followed by Ink Ribbon Red by Alex Pavesi.  If I can make my way through these I’m hoping to pick up one of my October reads and The Fury of the Gods by John Gwynne is really calling to me.  Probably not a good idea to make too firm plans and just go with the flow though.

Books read this week:

This week has been another busy one.  I went off track a little with my reading, well, not off track exactly as the books were still from my October list,  just a little out of order, a bit of mood reading.  I completed Cold Snap by Lindy Ryan.  This one didn’t work out quite as well as I was anticipating, particularly after I loved her last book, Bless Your Heart, perhaps my expectations were out of kilter.  I hadn’t realised this was a novella and I rarely request shorter books or collections as they’re not really my go to.  I also read, loved and reviewed Magic by Sarah Pinborough, this was so good and I have another from the collection still waiting to be read that I can’t wait to pick up.  And, as I’m writing up this post I’ve just completed Hear Him Calling by Carly Reagon – if you want scaring half to death then I suggest giving this a read, seriously this gave me the heebies.  It’s the perfect time for a haunting story and Hear Him Calling delivers this without a shadow of a doubt.

Next Week’s Reads:

I’m going to get back on track and pick up The Coven by Harper L Woods and The Book of Witching by CJ Cooke.  In fact I’ve already started The Book of Witching, it’s early days but so far so good.

Reviews Posted:

  1. Cold Snap by Carly Ryan
  2. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
  3. Through Blood and Dragons by RM Schultz (SPFBO)
  4. Magic By Sarah Pinborough

Books read this week:

So, I missed last week’s  update, things just becoming chaotic, so this week I’ll be recapping two weeks instead of one.  To be honest my reading has been pretty dreadful for some reason, I’ve not been getting really absorbed and keep putting books to one side.  Hopefully this improves.  For example, I put The Haunting of Moscow House by Olesya Salnikova Gilmore to one side for now.  I have read Gorse by Sam K Horton which I loved and already reviewed.  I also completed The Ravening by Daniel Church – this one didn’t work for me unfortunately.  I also just completed The Glassmaker by Tracy Chevalier which was very well executed and I’ll be reviewing soon..

Next Week’s Reads:

I’ve started reading The Wilding by Ian McDonald and I’d like to pick up one of my October reads. Either The Bog Wife by Kay Chronister or The Coven by Harper L Woods.  I have a pretty busy month for October and in fact have some more SPFBO books to read passed  over to me by the Critiquing Chemist.

  1. Smile and Be a Villain by Yves Donlon
  2. Gorse by Sam K Horton

Sunday Post/Weekly Wrap Up plus Monthly Wrap Up/What’s On My Plate August/September

Today I’m combining my Weekly Wrap Up with my Monthly Wrap Up plus What’s on My Plate for September.

Books read this week:

I didn’t manage to fit in as much reading this week but I’m still getting ahead with reviews and comments/blog hopping so I’m relatively happy.  I’ve also posted my second batch of cuts for SPFBO which leaves me with five titles to explore further.  I think some of my more recent reads have slowed me down a little.  This week completed and reviewed The Mercy of Gods by James SA Corey. I then picked up one of my September books, The Gods Below by Andrea Stewart – this is good, the writing is excellent, but I am finding it a little slow but I think maybe I needed to fit a quick, light read inbetween.

Next Week’s Reads:

I’ll be continuing primarily with my SPFBO books this week and also hoping to pick up So Thirsty by Rachel Harrison which I’m really looking forward to.

  1. Storm Child by Michael Robotham
  2. The Voyage Home by Pat Barker
  3. The Mercy of Gods by James SA Corey
