Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. A comedy cover
Thankfully I found this week’s theme a bit easier than last week. I had a few books that I’d thought of but then it seemed a shame to have this particular theme and not use a Pratchett book. I love the Tiffany Aching series so the book I’ve chosen this week is : The Wee Free Men (Discworld #30) by Terry Pratchett.

Ooh, this was a tough one. I hope everyone else found this a bit easier than I did. I thought of two books that might fit the theme but wasn’t really sure if I was stretching a little – Skullsworn by Brian Staveley – actually I think this would fit okay because the main character is undertaking an initiation test to become a priestess. The other was Peter Brett’s the Warded Man – obviously the main character isn’t a religious character as such but as he undertakes his journey through the book to become ‘the Warded Man’ he does have that feel somehow – okay, I’m stretching. The book I’ve chosen this week is The Exorcist (The Exorcist #1) by William Peter Blatty. There were quite a number of covers for this one. I’ve selected just a few.

A cover featuring an Amulet – either in the cover or title
I thought I had a few books for this week’s theme but when I went to look I was much mistaken. Alas. So, much wracking of brains ensued – I was trying all sorts of ideas and trying to recall characters wearing talismans and that’s when it hit me – Atticus from Kevin Hearne’s Iron Druid Chronicles. Atticus is a great character and in fact the series is tremendous fun – I’ve fallen behind but think I read the first five books. Atticus has fashioned himself an Iron Amulet with binding charms worked into each section. Quite a lot of the different instalments show the amulet but I’ve gone for the first in series. Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles #1) by Kevin Hearne:

I couldn’t find too many books on my shelves that fitted the theme, well, I could have picked a purely historical novel but I was trying to find something with fantasy elements and so chose Midnight Never Come (The Onyx Court #1) by Marie Brennan:

The first cover looks quite sinister to me and more like a vampire type novel than one in which a fae underworld exists. I’m not absolutely in love with any of the covers this week although the one I’ve chosen is good in terms of being a bit more representative of the story.

A cover that is fresh – New beginnings for a New Year
I confess that when I dreamt up this week’s theme it really did seem like a good idea! As it happens I did have a few books that kind of worked but to be honest this was much more difficult than I anticipated. So, I’ve gone for a book that I think (aka hope) fits: The Wild Girl by Kate Forsyth. I bought this a few years ago along with another of Kate’s books – Bitter Greens. I’ve not had chance to read them but I figure I can use them here. See what you think:
