Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below – the list has been updated to help out those of you who like to plan ahead – if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme. I’ve also listed events that take place during the year, that I’m aware of, so you can link up your covers – if you’re aware of any events that you think I should include then give me a shout. This week’s theme:
‘A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse’ – A cover featuring a king
Mmm, I didn’t have an easy week with this theme. I considered using a book with ‘King’ in the title which would have increased my book choices but then decided to go with a trusty favourite. The Return of the King (The Lord of the Rings #3) by J.R.R. Tolkien. As you may imagine there are a lot of covers for this book – a lot – I’ve restricted myself to just a very small selection:
The covers:
My favourite this week is:

I also have a list prepared for 2020 and so will set up a separate page soon for forthcoming themes. As always, if you wish to submit an idea then leave me a comment.

This week’s theme:
‘Beware the moon, lads.’ – A cover with a shapeshifter
Hopefully this week’s theme wasn’t too much of a struggle. Shapeshifting is a fairly well used theme in the world of fantasy. This week I’ve gone with : Bitten (Otherworld #1) by Kelley Armstrong. I’ve only read the first in the series and that was some time ago. I didn’t continue, not because I didn’t like the book, more because I think I had so many series on the go at the particular time – have you read this series? Do you think I should return to it?
The covers:
The top right corner is the version that I read.
The covers I like best are:
My favourite this week is:

I also really like the simplicity of the black cover with the spots of blood.
Which one is your favourite?

This week’s theme:
‘Two little fishes and a momma fishy too’ – A cover featuring a fish/fishes or other sea creatures
I had to have a good think about this week’s theme – then I remembered some of the books I read pre-blogging and I actually wound up with a few books to choose from but I went with a favourite author and chose The River King by Alice Hoffman.
The covers:
My favourite this week is:

I can’t say I really love any of the covers this week to be honest but I think the swan cover has a startlingly bright feel about it. I also quite like the cover next to this with the shimmery blue and the yellow handwritten font.
Like last week I’ve added a Mr Linky here so that you can leave a link if you wish or please leave me a link in the comments so we can all visit and check out each others covers. Thanks
I’ll be updating the list soon to take it through a few more months – if you have any suggestions you’d like to see adding then drop a note in the comments. Thanks

This week’s theme:
“Woe, destruction, ruin, and decay; the worst is death and death will have his day.” – A cover with abandoned building/s
Well, I struggled with this theme I can’t deny it. I could have used a book that I’ve already used but I didn’t want to do so and so after much, much trawling through books I came up with the third book in the Forest of Hands and Teeth – The Dark and Hollow Places – which I think fits the theme.
The covers:
My favourite this week is:

I quite like the cover with the ruined city too.

I found this week’s theme slightly easier than I expected. I did have a few books that I thought of using but decided on: The Testament of Loki by Joanne M Harris:
The covers:

I just love this cover and also really loved both books in the series – I don’t know if more are planned but one can but hope.
