Countdown to 2026: Day 19 – Christmas Carols – a book with musicians, song or instruments

Once again I am counting down to the New Year, as with the previous years I shall be highlighting at least one book per day to fit the prompt on that given day.  The main aim for this countdown is to highlight some of my reads during the past year and to shine the spotlight on them once again (although some of the prompts relate to forthcoming reads).

Today is Day 19 of the countdown to 2026 and a list of prompts can be found here if you wish to join me in counting down to 2026 and casting a spotlight on some of your favourite books.

Today’s Prompt: Christmas Carols – a book with musicians, song or instruments:

My Ex ,The Antichrist by Craig DiLouie:

This book is so fitting for today’s prompt (look closely enough and you can see a vinyl record behind the title on the cover.  This book is told in a sort of documentary style, with individual band members relating their own little bits and pieces as things unfold.  It concludes with a battle of the bands competition where things become totally crazy.

I do enjoy a good urban fantasy and the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs is definitely keeping me entertained.  I enjoyed the mystery of Winter Lost very much.

Today is day 19 of my countdown to 2024.  Using a series of prompts each day I will post a book title that I believe fits the prompt.  The aim is to highlight as many books as possible that I read from 2023 and shine the spotlight on them once again (although for some prompts I will be looking at future reads).  A list of prompts can be found here if you wish to join me in counting down to 2024.

Today’s prompt: Christmas Carols – a book with musicians, song or instruments:

Okay.  I’ve gone for a book that I didn’t read this year (although I did reread it a few years ago.  Lord of the rings by JRR Tolkien.  You gotta love a good classic.

LotR

I can’t resist the opportunity to talk about this book.  I read it when I was a teenager and I still love it.

Countdown to 2023 – Day 19 ‘Christmas Carols’ (12 days remaining)

IMG_8687-1

Today is day 19 of my countdown to 2023.  Today’s prompt is ‘Christmas Carols’.  The prompts can be found here if you want to join in.  I’m hoping to use mostly books read this year.  Let’s begin:

CHRISTMAS CAROLS (A book with musicians, song or instruments )

I’ll try not to make this a bad habit but again today I’m running another slight cheat and including two boos for this prompt.  It’s just that they’re both so perfect and such different reads that I couldn’t resist.  Signal to Noise by Silvia Moreno Garcia which is a book with subtle magical realism and Dyer St Punk Witches by Phil Williams which is a book with witches (the clue was in the title of course) and a little bit of punk nostalgia.

Tomorrow: Eggnog – a book that was out of your comfort zone
