Booking Ahead/Weekly Wrap Up

I’m trying to get back into the habit of doing a round-up of the week just completed and also take a look at my plans for the forthcoming week. I rather got out of the habit of doing so but I would like to reinstate this type of post as I feel it keeps me on track. So, I’m linking up to The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s Caffeinated Reviewer. Without further ado:
Books read this week:
I was shocked to realised that I didn’t post a wrap up last week – whoops – I was obviously getting carried away with the holiday festivities. Plus my daughter came to stay which was lovely so less time for reading and blogging. In other news I’ve finally shaken off the lurgy, I still feel tired if I over exert myself but otherwise I feel good. That being said my dad has just gone into hospital which is very worrying. Hopefully he will be better soon but in the meantime it’s a bit distracting so if I go missing on here that’s probably why.
So, firstly, Happy New Year to everyone. In reading news I managed to complete The House in the Pines by Ana Reyes. I also managed to fit in The Ivory Tomb by Melissa Caruso which is the third and final book in the Rooks and Ruin series and was a very dramatic conclusion. The past week I’ve been reading Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie which is very good and also listening to what is perhaps a strange choice for me, the Vanishing Act of Margaret Small by Neil Alexander. It’s an easy listen that I hope to complete soon.
Next Week’s Reads:
Hopefully I’ll complete my two current reads fairly quickly as I’m close to the end of both and then I have three books that I’m very excited to get to. All The Blood We Share by Camilla Bruce, The Drift by CJ Tudor and The Whispering Muse by Laura Purcell. Literally, I’m so excited for these three books. Fingers crossed they live up to my lofty expectations.
Reviews Posted since my last Sunday Post:
None for the past week – I need to catch up.
- Love Will Tear Us Apart by CK McDonnell
- SPFBO No.1
- SPFBO No.2
- Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries
- How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix
- The House in the Pines by Ana Reyes
- The Ivory Tomb by Melissa Caruso
I shall be trying to fit in a few reviews more than usual in the next couple of weeks in a bid to catch up. Wish me luck

Books read this week:
You may have noticed that I missed a weekly update. I’ve been away staying with family and trying to help with various things. At the same time, unfortunately, I’ve caught something nasty and been laid up in bed most of the past 8/9 days. I’m still not over it yet but I feel like I’ve turned a corner. Since my last update I finished reading The Cloisters by Katy Hays. I also read my second SPFBO finalist and read Sarah Gailey’s Just Like Home. I’ve now made a start on Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries which I’m loving.
Next Week’s Reads:
Hopefully continue to recover, finish my current read and then make a start on some backlist books maybe or read another couple of January books. How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix. I also started and need to complete All of Our Demise by Christine Lynn Herman; Amanda Foody and I also started Ithaca by Claire North.

Books read this week:
This week seems to have flown and I seem to have spent most of the week getting mixed up about what day I’m up to – everything slow down! Aarrgghghghgh. Anyway, in terms of reading I managed to compete both Silvia Moreno Garcia’s Signal to Noise and The Witch and the Tsar by Olesya Salnikova Gilmore. Both reviews to follow shortly (hopefully). I also started my Countdown to 2023 and I’m aiming to post a book per day for that. In other news I mentioned on my last Friday Face Off that I will be changing the format in the new year. I also started reading The Cloisters by Katy Hays and I expect to finish that by tonight all going well so I’ll add that on here too.
Next Week’s Reads:
Well, I may start my second SPFBO finalist. On the review list I have a few upcoming January books that I’m thinking of starting and also a couple of backlist titles that I’d like to catch up so there are quite a number of possibilities. How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix or Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett are both on my January list. I also started and need to complete All of Our Demise by Christine Lynn Herman; Amanda Foody and I also started Ithaca by Claire North.

Books read this week:
This week I’ve managed to squeeze in a few books as well as spending the weekend decorating and feeling mostly exhausted. I listened to A Restless Truth by Freya Marske which is a period murder mystery with magic and mayhem, a little romance and, ahem, quite racy in places. I read Pulling the Wings off Angels by KJ Parker which was a very quick read, maybe not quite what I’d expected, a good dose of humour and a theological discussion. Tread of Angels by Rebecca Roanhorse which I loved. Also, The Creeper by AM Shine which I will say is very well named! Finally I started Silvia Moreno Garcia’s Signal to Noise. The jury is out so far with this one although its early days so we’ll see – that being said I’ve loved all her previous books so fingers crossed.
Next Week’s Reads:
Well, apart from needing to post quite a few reviews I’d like to complete my first SPFBO finalist. Then maybe pick up The Witch and the Tsar by Olesya Salnikova Gilmore to get a head start on December.
