I’m trying to get back into the habit of doing a round-up of the week just completed and also take a look at my plans for the forthcoming week. I rather got out of the habit of doing so but I would like to reinstate this type of post as I feel it keeps me on track. So, I’m linking up to The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s Caffeinated Reviewer. Without further ado:
Books read this week:
Well, lots of developments this week. I’ve been really busy. On top of that my phone has been broken which I will confess demonstrates quite powerfully just how easy it is for these little gadgets to insinuate themselves so easily into our lives. It’s a flipping nightmare. And, in other news, just in case things were becoming too simple we decided (rather suddenly and abruptly) to trial another rescue dog. Put bluntly, our hearts overruled our heads and so here we now are! Just over a year and a half ago we adopted a dog called Bones, a Podengo Grande, an absolutely beautiful dog with a heart of gold. He is very much a part of our family and so when we came across a slightly smaller female version (almost identical to him in everything but looks as though she’s been put in a machine to shrink her down – ‘honey, I shrunk the dog’ – well, yes, e couldn’t resist. So here we are. Just three days in, trying to give her a calm environment and give her time to let her anxiety begin to lessen. I can’t deny it’s hard work, and also messes up the routine. But it is rewarding. Between one thing and another there has been little time for anything this week. But I have completed my beta read and also moved forward with my current SPFBO read, I’ve also written a couple of reviews – slowly but surely I’m catching up.
Next Week’s Reads:
- The Book That Wouldn’t Burn by Mark Lawrence
- The Twenty by Sam Holland
- My Murder by Kate Williams
- The People Watcher by Sam Lloyd
- Soul Taken by Patricia Brigg
- Claws and Contrivances by Stephanie Burgis
- All The Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham

Books read this week:
The past week I’ve had family visiting which has pretty much taken up all my time (and energy – lets just be honest here). It was lovely to have them stay and the time just flew past so quickly. It did mean I only managed one post last week, a cover reveal for Phil William’s latest book – However Many Must Die – which looks very exciting. In bookish news I’ve been beta reading a book which I’ve almost completed (about 50 pages left so hopefully will complete this today). I’ve managed to start updating my blog in some of the areas that I’ve got very behind with and I did write a couple of reviews – still plenty more to come though – I’m going to list them below which might help me to keep track. I’ve not completed any reads this week although I have a few on the go. I’m reading and listening to The Ferryman by Justin Cronin. This is definitely not a fast read, it’s very measured, I wouldn’t call it exciting at this point but it’s definitely interesting. I’ve also started reading The Ghost Ship by Kate Mosse – again, not a fast read and it has quite a bit of set up (which is the part I’m reading now), but it’s well written and I’m intrigued. I also started to read They Lurk by Ronald Malfi. To be honest I don’t think I’ll complete this one. I’m not a fan of short stories and normally don’t request them because I know they won’t work for me but I couldn’t help myself with this author, I’m loving his work – but short stories, they simply don’t do it for me. On the back of putting They Lurk to one side I picked up Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno Garcia which I’m enjoying and about a third of the way in.
Next Week’s Reads:
I hope to complete my beta read and Silver Nitrate. The Ferryman and the Ghost Ship will probably take me longer in between other reads but I will definitely finish them. If I can squeeze a couple of other books in I’ll either pick up The Revels by Stacey Thomas or Abandon by Blake Crouch. I also need to press on with my SPFBO books.

Books read this week:
My last Sunday post was so long ago now that I barely know where to start. I’ve been doing some catching up this week. A bit of blog hopping plus I’ve managed to post a number of reviews and I feel like I’m making good progress there.
My reading has also been good. I finished off my final SPFBO book that I already reviewed on Friday. I also managed to read Games for Dead Girls by Jen Williams and I’m a good third of the way into Jennifter Saint’s Atalanta and enjoying it so far.
Next Week’s Reads:
Hopefully complete Atalanta by Jennifer Saint. I’d like to press on with my outstanding April books to see if I can maybe squeeze in a couple more which leaves me with the following choices.

- The Vanishing of Margaret Small by Neil Alexander
- Love Will Tear Us Apart by CK McDonell

- A Touch of Light by Thiago Abdalla

Books read this week:
So, dad is still poorly and still in hospital. I’m currently looking after mum as it’s difficult for her to cope for this length of time not to mention lonely. I’ve still managed to do some reading and posting but not much time to actually sit down and blog hop. Hopefully I will catch up with comments and all your posts soon.
This week I managed to complete The Drift by CJ Tudor which I really enjoyed. I also read All The Blood We Share by Camilla Bruce. Another author who I’m a bit fixated on at the moment, this is from the work she seems to be enjoying that gives a fictional account of true life serial killers, the previous novel being In the Garden of Spite (or Triflers Need Not Apply as it’s also known). I’ve also started All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham which gets off to a very intriguing start. Look at the covers for last week’s reads – don’t you just love it when your covers conspire together to provide matching colours.
Next Week’s Reads:
- Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie
- How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix
- The Drift by CJ Tudor
Outstanding Reviews
- Love Will Tear Us Apart by CK McDonnell
- SPFBO No.1
- SPFBO No.2
- The Ivory Tomb by Melissa Caruso
- The Vanishing of Margaret Small
- The Whispering Muse by Laura Purcell
- All The Blood We Share by Camilla Bruce.
I will be trying to post three reviews again this forthcoming week.

Books read this week:
So, as I write this post my dad is very poorly. He’s in hospital and in a very bad way. I can only keep my fingers and toes crossed that he pulls through. I don’t expect to be reading much but you never know, the distraction might be what I need but I suspect that I simply won’t be able to concentrate.
The past week I managed to finish Thirteen by Craig DiLouie which was so good and also finish my listen of The Vanishing Act of Margaret Small – packed with emotion. I also picked up and devoured the latest Laura Purcell – and it was good. My next book is the latest CJ Tudor. I’m blasting through this. It’s gripping.
Next Week’s Reads:
I suspect I will have completed The Drift before this post goes live. Then I’ll move onto the latest Camilla Bruce, All The Blood We Share. Which leaves me with one audio book to be read in January and my next SPFBO so I might be able to start thinking of February reads. I do have a LOT of February reads. But, as I said above, everything hinges on the next couple of days.
Reviews Posted since my last Sunday Post:

Bear with me over the next few days. I started the New Year so happy and with great intentions but now – well, life is strange. That’s all I can say.
