Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below – the list has been updated to help out those of you who like to plan ahead – if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme. I’ve also listed events that take place during the year, that I’m aware of, so you can link up your covers – if you’re aware of any events that you think I should include then give me a shout. This week’s theme:
“bibbity, bobbity, boo” – A cover that features ‘magical things’
Not too difficult to find a cover this week – hope everyone else found it okay too. (Also, sorry I’ve not been visiting blogs – I’m suffering from very bad wifi at the moment and even creating a post takes an age – hopefully I’ll be back to normal soon). Anyway, to the covers. This week I’ve picked Storm Front by Jim Butcher. This is the first in the Dresden Series – this is a series that I was really enjoying and really need to jump back on board (I think I got as far as No.8). Anyway, quite a lot of the books feature Harry’s magical staff (not sure if I’m naming that correctly) so that’s the artefact I’m choosing for this week’s theme:
Some very unusual covers here – my favourite two (and I’m sure some of this comes down to familiarity are:
I like the simplicity of the first cover and the second is the series of covers that I’ve become very familiar with and naturally drawn to. I’m not going to choose between the two.
Which one is your favourite?
Like last week I’ve added a Mr Linky here so that you can leave a link if you wish or please leave me a link in the comments so we can all visit and check out each others covers. Thanks
I’ve updated the list and included themes through to the end of 2019 – I’ve also included events that I’m aware of so that you can perhaps link your themes up where possible (if you know of an event you’d like to share that let me know in the comments). I also have a list prepared for 2020 and so will set up a separate page soon for forthcoming themes. As always, if you wish to submit an idea then leave me a comment.
Next week – A favourite fantasy cover
Future themes: (if you’re struggling with any of these themes then use a ‘freebie’ or one of your favourite covers)

My favorite is actually one of your winners, the one on the left. I actually really like the US covers for this series, but at the same time, they are very “UF”, which means sometimes they can be a bit busy. I feel that’s the issue with many of these, so I’m not surprised I more attracted to that cleaner “case files” cover.
I really like that case file cover – it’s very simple but effective because of the simplicity. The US covers – I like that they’ve been so consistent more than anything else – agreed that they can be busy sometimes though.
Lynn 😀
[…] UK and US book covers and decide which is we prefer. This meme is currently being nurtured by Lynn’s Book Blog and the subject this week featuring on any of our covers is MAGICAL THINGS, so I’ve selected A […]
I love the UK cover with allll my heart and soul. We were blown away by this series when we happened upon them in the book shop and bought them all as they came out, though were less enthusiastic by the final three or four… Great choice for this week, Lynn:))
Yeah, I kind of trailed off a little, think I got up to 8 – I would like to complete the series though – and the Toby Daye and Mercy Thompson ones too.
Lynn 😀
I got up to Book 13, but by then it was quite bleak… And yes… *sigh* there is the Toby Daye series and I have even less excuse for not being up with the Mercy Thompson series as Himself has bought all the books…
Many of these are quite striking. I think my favorite is the third cover on the third row, the one with lighting and the skull in addition to Harry with his staff. Although I don’t remember the story having a scorpion.
Yes, I was puzzled about the scorpion too – but then it’s been a while since I started this series so I may have forgotten something.
Lynn 😀
I love the one you picked, and also the black and white drawing with the red title. Yes, this was a fun week, lots to pick from!
I also like the black and white drawing – although it doesn’t quite fit in my mind as ‘Harry’ – I like the style.
Lynn 😀
I liked the one you picked in brown tones. I really liked this series and need to pick it back up. There are tons of covers for this one!
Yep, I didn’t even post half the covers available. And I also need to get back on track.
Lynn 😀

Slow wifi is the worst! I hope it gets fixed soon!
I like the 12th cover best. The one with him holding the staff thing with the blue sky and lightning. 🙂
It’s the price I’m paying for being in the middle of nowhere – peace, tranquility, beautiful scenery, wildlife and very little wi-fi – so will probably take 5 minutes just to post this comment LOL
Lynn 😀
I love the third cover in the second row: the black-and-white drawing is very arresting, and above all I like the hint of wind that is ruffling the character’s hair – or at least this is the impression I have. And the two scorpions on the lower portion are… well, intriguing… 🙂
Good luck with the wi-fi!!!!
Yes, I really like that drawing too – the only reason I didn’t pick it is because it’s not how I imagine Harry at all fo some reason.
Today – I have wifi and i’m making the most of it.
Lynn 😀

I really love that familiar cover for this one, I’ve seen a lot of that artist’s covers and just really dig the style.
Me too 😀
