Throwback Thursday, is a new feature created by Tenacious Reader with the aim of highlighting books from your reading past. This can be virtually anything, a book that you previously read and loved, a book that you want to highlight again, maybe it’s a book in a series and the next book is due out shortly so you want to focus some attention on the series. Anything goes – so long as your book isn’t a current release as there are already plenty of ways to highlight the latest books.
Given the Wyrd & Wonder event and the spotlight on fantasy this week I’m highlighting another urban fantasy series that I love (last week’s TT was the October Daye series): the Mercy Thompson series of books by Patricia Briggs. This is another long standing series that has a new book released today and with that new release the total number of books in the series now stands at 11 titles. This is a series that is well worth picking up, particularly if you like a strong female lead. Mercy is a no-nonsense car mechanic with a Native American heritage that has given her the ability to shape shift. Again, this might seem like a daunting backlog of books but it’s the sort of series that pulls you in so successfully that you will probably end up binge reading a lot of them (at least that’s what I would probably do!). I highly recommend this series, it builds on a strong foundation and adds more and more depth with each successive book. Feast your eyes on these lovelies:

I only read the first one, so far, and it looked promising, so I hope to be able to move forward soon with this intriguing story: if it proves to be just as enthralling as the October Daye series, 11 books will not be too much indeed…. 😉
I remember reading the first one and not being totally enamoured tbh – I liked it but I wasn’t wowed, but in this case I’d bought the first three books on an impulse buy because they were on offer and I’m so glad I did. Because I had the next two I was determined to read on and then I became hooked, if I hadn’t had the next in series I might have considered stopping and I think that would have been a shame. I’d like to read your thoughts 😀

I really want to read some urban fantasy again soon, it feels like its been quite a while. I know I’ve read something by Briggs at some point, but not this series… will have to add it to my TBR (I was actually surprised to see its not already on it)
I do like good urban fantasy.
Do you have Westside on your tbr? I just finished it and loved it. Set in NY, it has a Gangs of New York/Neverwhere/Gentleman Bastards type feel – I really enjoyed it.

Yes, it’s been going on for a quite a while hasn’t it? I’m still really enjoying this series, but I do have to wonder whether she has any plans to wrap up soon, I don’t want things to drag on past their welcome.
I know what you mean – it’s kind of the way I ended up feeling about the Sookie Stackhouse books.

I absolutely love this series! I set it down somewhere around book 6ish, and really need to pick it back up again and binge them to get caught up at some point. I miss these characters.
I’ve just read the 9th and will be picking up the 10th very soon. Determined to catch up with this and the Toby Daye series.
