Throwback Thursday, is a new feature created by Tenacious Reader with the aim of highlighting books from your reading past. This can be virtually anything, a book that you previously read and loved, a book that you want to highlight again, maybe it’s a book in a series and the next book is due out shortly so you want to focus some attention on the series. Anything goes – so long as your book isn’t a current release as there are already plenty of ways to highlight the latest books.
Given the Wyrd & Wonder event and the spotlight on fantasy this week I’m highlighting an urban fantasy series that I love and that if you haven’t started to read yet I will say – don’t be put off by the number of books already released – this series is remarkable. It’s the series that keeps on giving with every book seeming to be stronger than the last. The October Daye series by Seanan McGuire. I’m not totally uptodate with the series – but that just means I have some books still to look forward to. And, on top of the 12 books below I know there are more planned, so there’s never been a better time to start. Feast your eyes on these lovelies:
I’ve never read anything from this author, but i’ll have to check this series out.
Yes, do so, it’s such a good series if you like UF.
Lynn 😀
Every time I see this series it just reminds me I really need to hurry up and get to book two, lol.
So many books, so little time.
Lynn 😀
I really want to read this series! Thanks for the reminder!

If you love UF it’s a great series. I’d say the first book is quite slow but then things start to develop and tbh it’s a series that has surpassed my expectations, in fact I find it difficult to believe how well develop it is – and how it just keeps getting better. It’s a real credit to McGuire and her forward planning.
Lynn 😀
This makes me even more excited 😊 thanks!
I’ve just learnt of a readalong for this series so i you enjoy taking part with others check out Jorie’s blog https://jorielovesastory.com/
As mentioned, I’m co-hosting the RAL for October Daye w/ Lou – follow us on Twitter via our #ADayeAMonth tag — however, being I’m 5x books behind, you can literally JOIN us still to discuss the series! Posting about book one: Rosemary & Rue this 2nd week of #WyrdAndWonder!!
I will skip over to twitter and join in – thanks
Lynn 😀
Well done!!!! Let’s share the love for this magnificent series and its amazing characters! 🙂
Yes, lets 😀
I’ve read the first three books and thoroughly enjoyed them – I need to get back to reading the rest…:). Thank you for highlighting this excellent series and reminding me of them, Lynn!
I was reminding myself too – I need to carry on 😀
Yes – I am currently in the middle of Middlegame, which has reminded me all over again about how GOOD she is.
😀
Hallo, Hallo Lynn,
What a lovely s/o spotlight on the October Daye series! I am reading this as a co-hosted RAL with Lou @foxesfairytale – it is a 12 month RAL but I had a late start due to life, etc — I’ll be blogging my thoughts about the first 5x books this month if all goes well as I had to reshuffle how I’m receiving them from my local libraries! lol I agree w/ you though – sometimes people can get put-off a LARGE series in-progress or publication but to me? Those are golden discoveries! I take after my Mum you see, we both are completely smitten with wicked LONG series to read through! Ha!!
Speaking of #WyrdAndWonder – I’m one of the event’s co-hosts and I am mighty impressed w/ the banner you have there! Is that hand-drawn!? Its a beaut!!
You can join me in the #ADayeAMonth RAL if you’d like? Look for my Rosemary & Rue post coming up this second week of Wyrd and Wonder – or follow the tag on Twitter – there is also a discussion group via DM.
How many books have you read thus far?
And, happy to have you with us!! I’ve added this post to our event’s archive!
I hadn’t realised you were planning a readalong – I’d seen the readalong for the Rebecca Roan book but not these – I’d definitely like to join in wit the comments. I also have patience for long series – but I can sympathise about how daunting they can feel. I read all the Sookie books and also the Rachel Caine Morganville Vampire books – I was having a vampire moment!
Yes, I drew the banner, I like to sketch every now and again but I’m lazy and I tend to rush things so I’m always disappointed. I know how I wanted the banner to look but didn’t achieve it tbh – I should really have done a new one based on this but I just let time run away. But thanks 😀
I would love to join the RAL from the point I’ve reached in the series – I’ll have to be careful about joining in beforehand because it’s so easy to give away spoilers when you’ve already read the book. I’m up to No. 9 – I have a copy of A Red Rose Chain just patiently waiting so when you reach that point I could jump in.
Lynn 😀
I’ll be updating you about this response this coming week… I was waiting til I get at least Rosemary & Rue up on my blog – my migraine wrecked a lot of my plans/scheduled posts.
I recently bought the first book, and one of these days I’m actually going to read it!
Yep, I can sympathise.
Lynn 😀
Great post! It’s also one of my favorite series. Love the sea witch!
I love the sea witch too – although she would be horrified if she knew she had so many people out there who want to be friends!
Lynn 😀
This is another one I’ve always meant to read. I’ve read a couple of books in one of her other UF series (the one that starts with Discount Armageddon) and really loved those.
I think you’d like these to be honest. Lots of fae, the characters all develop really well and there’s a rather dishy character – but I won’t say more.
Lynn 😀
[…] week I’m highlighting another urban fantasy series that I love (last week’s TT was the October Daye series): the Mercy Thompson series of books by Patricia Briggs. This is another long standing […]
