Tags: The Broke and the Bookish, Top Ten Tuesday

Every Tuesday over at the The Broke and Bookish we all get to look at a particular topic for discussion and use various (or more to the point ten) examples to demonstrate that particular topic. This week’s topic is:
Top 10 new releases Books I Bought in 2016 and Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To (But TOTALLY plan to)
- Tower of Thorns by Juliet Marilier. This is the second instalment of her Blackthorn and Grim series that started with Dreamer’s Pool – a book that I absolutely loved. I bought the second book virtually immediately but as with most of my own books it has taken a back seat to review books. As it happens I now also have a copy of Den of Wolves so hopefully I will get to these two soon – I know that I will love them.
- V E Schwab is an author that I haven’t yet read and so last year I picked up a copy of A Darker Shade of Magic and Savage Song – any recommendations as to which one I should pick up first???
- Patricia Briggs Fire Touched. I simply can’t believe that I’ve not started this one yet. I love this series and the main character Mercy Thompson.
- Beyond Redemption by Michael R Fletcher. I really am very keen to get to this. It had such great reviews from people who I trust to steer me onto the path of excellent reads!
- Wake of Vultures and Conspiracy of Ravens by Lila Bowen – I bought both of these – that’s how confident I am that I’m going to love them.
- Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo – I loved the first in series so I’m really looking forward to picking this up.
- Senlin Ascends and Arm of the Sphinx (yes, I bought book 1 and 2 of the books of Babel by Josiah Bancroft – another excellent recommendation and two books that I’m really eager to read – they’re receiving positively glowing reviews!
- The Marie Brennan series that revolves all around Lady Trent – I bought In the Labyrinth of Drakes early last year so really need to prioritise this one.
- The Hunt by Chuck Wendig. Another book bought early 2016. I loved Atlanta Burns. My review here.
- The Chrysalids by John Wyndham – I’m bursting to read this book and as it’s Vintage Sci Fi month right now it really is the perfect time so I need to get on with it.
That’s it for me this week – well, I say that’s it – it really isn’t, I have so many books just waiting. I need to make a dedicated plan to start knocking them off the list.
Beyond Redemption is great, it’s sequel The Mirror’s Truth is even better.😀 And, I really enjoyed both Conspiracy of Ravens and A Wake of Vultures, couple of great reads.
I’ve read such great reviews for all of these – I can’t wait – although I suppose I’ll have to be a bit measured and balance the review books into the frame too.
Lynn 😀
I want almost all of those. Wake of Vultures is on my kindle, I have no excuses.
You don’t have any excuses, well, other than the same ones I have *hangs head*. Well, you can’t buy time after all!
Lynn 😀
So glad I’m not alone! I meant to read The Hunt as well, but it never popped up on Netgalley so… I would start with A Darker Shade of Magic between the two Schwab books, it was my favorite. And now that I have a copy of Beyond Redemption, I am very eager to read it:-)
Darker Shade of Magic it is then. Thanks
Lynn 😀
Looks like an excellent selection!
I thought that too and rushed out to pick up copies – still, I will get to them eventually.
Lynn 😀
I’m in the middle of Tower of Thorns right now, and I can tell you it’s even better than Dreamer’s Pool: Marillier is a very, very talented storyteller and she can truly enchant you with her writing 🙂
Ohh, excellent *jumps up and down eagerly*. I’ll be starting both these two soon hopefully.
Lynn 😀
Crooked Kingdoms was fantastic! I hope you get a chance to read it soon! 🙂
Great list!
I hope so too.
Lynn 😀
Oh! Some really great books you have to look forward! I also bought Senlin Ascends, and am thinking of reading it this month since its the r/fantasy Goodreads group discussion book.
Ahh, is it really – well, it’s getting some most excellent reviews and so I bought it quite a while ago. Now have to make some dedicated time. Really hoping to get on my backburn list this year!
Lynn 😀
Tower of Thorns! Tower of Thorns! Tower of Thorns!
I’m also really curious about Senlin Ascends after all the amazing things I’ve heard about it. I think it’s pretty awesome that this year Mark Lawrence and SPFBO helped get word of this book out there.
I know – it’s had such tremendous reviews. I bought it immediately because I was so intrigued and even went and bought the second as soon as it came out – I trust all those glowing write ups!
Lynn 😀
I really want to read Tower of Thorns too! Like you, I really enjoyed Dreamer’s Pool. I don’t own the book yet though. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it when you decide to read it 🙂
I need to make some room and fit it in soon.
Lynn 😀
Good luck with catching up with these books, but most importantly happy reading 🙂
Eventually. No point in stressing about it I suppose but it would be nice to catch up a little.
Lynn 😀
Senlin Ascends is beyond brilliant, it was my favourite book I read in 2016, and possibly my now favourite book ever. I can’t recommend it enough! 😀
How encouraging – unbelievably I bought Senlin Ascends probably 6 months ago – and in fact have bought the second because I’ve heard such goods things about it that I just expect to like both. I’ve found over the last 12 months that my own books have taken a back seat so for the past few months I’ve been winding my review books down a little so that I can spend time on my own tbr – including this one!
