Every Tuesday over at the The Broke and Bookish we all get to look at a particular topic for discussion and use various (or more to the point ten) examples to demonstrate that particular topic. The topic this week is:
‘Ten Websites I Love That Aren’t About Books’
Wow – I found this one a toughie to be honest. I don’t think I check out too many websites or blogs that aren’t book-centric but here are mine:
- Genkinahito – a great site mostly about movies that I’ve been following and enjoying for years: Taken from the about page: ‘I work in an art gallery but I love films, anime, gaming and Japan. I am also learning Japanese. I sometimes write for magazines and film festivals and other websites and I have been known to interview/talk to the odd director and actor’
- Carmen’s books and movies – although this does include some book reviews as well I really enjoy Carmen’s thoughts on films.
- @pabkins – on twitter and instagram. Also a book review blog called Not Yet Read – but, I’m focusing here on the twitter and instagram. All sorts of arts and crafts. Lots of fun events. Great personality and very talented.
- Bayou Quilts – a blog belonging to Jenclair – a very creative blogger with lots of ideas for arts and crafts
- imdb – i love movie sites!
- Rotten Tomatoes – ditto the above
- Wikipedia – just because I use it for all sorts!
- Any number of foodie websites – for example BBCGoodFood
- Amazon – and, yes, I know this is a source for books – but I use it for Prime which allows me to watch certain series – such as Outlander or Vikings – because, VIKINGS!
- This is a blank space for you to give me some ideas
Thanks for the shout out! I like to visit your site for the latest on books which helps me select my next purchases. I also use IMDB, Wikipedia and Amazon a lot although I should cut down on that last one…
No problem – your site is cool and even though I don’t always comment I’m always checking out your posts.
Yes – one click – who invented ‘one click’ – I love them and hate them in equal measure! Although mainly i love them (so not equal at all!)

Great list! Genkinahito sounds like something up my alley! Going to check that out. I definitely check out rotten tomatoes and imdb a lot too. Mostly to see what the consensus on the film is.
Yeah, the thing is – I don’t really want somebody to tell me if a film is good – I want to make up my own mind, but, sometimes if a film is really bombing then you can’t help thinking there’s something in it! That being said I’m sure I love some films that other people really don’t like!
Lynn 😀
Yeah, when so many people say its bad, there’s got to be something wrong. Haha. I read some of the reviews too. Just to see if what they disliked is something I’m okay with.
Wikipedia was on my list too! And now I’m thinking I should have added IMDb as well. I made an IMDb account yesterday just so I could keep track of all the TV shows and movies I want to watch.
Great list! 🙂
You have to love IMDB – and Wiki!
Lynn 😀
I love the Vikings TV series too, although I have to wait till it’s repeated on the History channel 🙂
It’s a great series – and I need to watch the other Viking series that the name just currently escapes me of!
Lynn 😀
Hmm, is that The Last Kingdom? That was Saxons v Vikings, and was amazing!
Wikipedia is a good one! I also really like Twitter, news sites, and blogs about cooking. After looking through my bookmarks bar on my browser though, most of the sites I have there are definitely bookish!
Thanks for the shout out, Lynn. I too enjoy your site and always read your thoughtful posts.
No problem – it’s good to share the love around.
Lynn 😀
Food websites you say? https://foodgawker.com 😉
Why – Just Why! Only kidding of course. Thanks for sharing I’ll check this out.
Lynn 😀
Ooh, Rotten Tomatoes! I love using that to decide whether a movie is worth several hours of my life. I thought of Amazon, but 95% of what I buy on there is books or book-related…
I know what you mean about Amazon and I almost didn’t add it for that reason but I have also watched a couple of series on there using Prime which I really like.
Lynn 😀
I didn’t know you were learning Japanese! That is really cool! 🙂
