This week over at The Broke and Bookish the topic for discussion is:
‘Top Ten Quotes I Loved From Books I Read In The Past Year Or So’
These quotes are all chosen from books I’ve enjoyed this year:
- ‘You can’t trust everything that ass Plato wrote,” Sokrates said.” The Just City by Jo Walton
- ‘Hic sunt leones. Here be lions.’ The Golden Son by Pierce Brown
- ‘People do not give it credence that a fourteen-year-old girl could leave home and go off in the wintertime to avenge her father’s blood but it did not seem so strange then, although I will say it did not happen every day.” True Grit by Charles Portis
- ‘Oh, for crying out loud,” she said. “Were you fools any more chivalrous I’d surely swoon on the spot and damage my uterus.’ The Mechanical by Ian Tregillis
- ‘It’s funny how many ways there are to hurt people. As many ways to hurt as there are species of flower. Whole bouquets of hurt. You do it without even realizing.’ When We Were Animals by Joshua Gaylord
- ‘I’m only a little ashamed to say I outsprinted the boy. Old habits die hard. It’s good to be faster than what’s chasing you, but really the important thing in running away is to be faster than the slowest of those being pursued. Rule number one: be ahead of the next man. Or child.’ The Liar’s Key by Mark Lawrence
- ‘The palace’s decrepit decorations were overwhelmed by piles of bone and hundreds of skulls staring down from broken chandeliers. Vampires slouched along the walls, drunk with blood, sometimes with red hands resting on humans who still showed signs of life.’ The Greyfriar by Clay and Susan Griffiths
- ‘When everyone knows you’re a monster, you needn’t waste time doing every monstrous thing.’ Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
- ‘Love as thou wilt’ Kushiel’s Chosen by Jacqueline Carey
- ‘So how’d an academic end up walking a zombie through a palace on a heist job?’ The Palace Job by Patrick Weekes
Great picks, Lynn! And your title is just so enticing and fun, too! 😀
BTW, you may want to read mine! 😀 It’s here: http://wp.me/p4ZhSl-li.
Thanks. Will stop over shortly.
Lynn 😀
It’s my pleasure. 😉
The True Grit quote is awesome and reminds me that I need to read that book still. Great picks! 🙂
I really loved that book – no fantasy/sci fi at all but great reading all the same.
Lynn 😀
I haven’t read any of these books hehe. Happy reading!
Here’s my post https://ireadboooks.wordpress.com/2015/11/17/14-books-id-buy-if-i-had-unlimited-book-depository-credit/
Haha – that’s the thing with quotes – they can come from the most randomly picked places.
Lynn 😀
I loved number 10! My TTT
Yeah – it’s a good one that – made me laugh out loud.
Lynn 😀
I love the True Grit quote 🙂 I really enjoyed both of the films but I haven’t read the book.
Jessica, I think you would love the book, it’s written in a very straightforward voice (being told by Mattie) and she is great to read.
Lynn 😀
Sounds like I would, thank you Lynn.
Great quotes, Lynn. Some made me laugh out loud. 😀
No.10 – that really is a most funny quote.
Lynn 😀
#5, though. Gah! Excuse me while i look that book up!
There is no way I could narrow down my books quotes to a top. Impossible. I write down the page numbers on my bookmarks when I read so I can go back and add them to Goodreads once I am done.
Haha – I’m not quite so thorough – if I’m reading a book as part of a readalong I frequently highlight various quotes but otherwise I’m a bit useless.
Lynn 😀
Man, Pierce Brown’s Red Rising series is like filled to the brim with amazing quotes 🙂
It really is! I went for something nice and simple – but I do really like that for some reason.
Lynn 😀
