This week over at the Broke and Bookish the topic for Top Ten Tuesday is :
‘Top Ten Debut Authors’
To be honest I struggled with this a little because I don’t always realise I’m reading a debut. Β Here goes (some of these may have 2nd or third books already released but I’ve only read the first):
- The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams – it was his debut and it’s the only one I’ve read of his!
- The Falconer by Elizabeth May
- The Martian by Andy Weir
- Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho
- Updraft by Fran Wild
- Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke
- Scourge of the Betrayer by Jeff Salyards – bit of a cheat as I haven’t read it yet – but I have it lined up!
- Darkhaven by A F E Smith
- The Grim Company by Luke Scull
- Wake by Anna Hope

We have a couple of the same picks, but I’m disappointed in myself that I haven’t read Sorcerer to the Crown. I’m going to fix that by the end of the year, I hope:-)
Haha, yeah, there’s a few books I’m hoping to ‘fix’ by the end of the year too! You know what they say about the best laid plans though…

Great list! I totally forgot about Wake! I should have added it to my list as well!
I really enjoyed Wake. I didn’t know what to expect and it just took me by surprise.

Can you send me your link please – having problems linking up for some reason.

I would love for Andy Weir to write another book! The Martian really surprised me, normally I’m not a hardcore sci-fi fan but it was funny and fun to read.
It was – I’m also not hardcore sci-fan so it was a lovely surprise. I went into it thinking ‘here we go’ and spent most of the book laughing which I really didn’t expect.

I would love to have more by Weir! Great picks!
Check out my TTT and the weekly meme I hosting on my blog Music Monday.
Well, now he’s proved to be such a success hopefully he’s writing much more! Although – the pressure!
Lynn π
I have The Martian on my list too. π
Great picks.

Thanks – the Martian seems to be very popular this week, with good reason of course.

Great list. I DIDN’T REALISE THE MARTIAN WAS A DEBUT. DAMN IT!!! That’s my top read of the year so far, that needed to be on my list!!! >.< I HAVE TO GO ADD IT ON! I think I am also going to have to add a few of these to my Christmas wishlist, it looks like I have missed out on some great debuts recently. Here's my TTT.
I’m useless at knowing which books were debuts. I had to go quite a way through my book list – and then check out the authors to see if they were debuts! I would have missed the Martian too because basically I hit 10 and stopped! It does seem to be a popular choice this week so we seem to be the only two who didn’t know it was a debut when reading!
Lynn π
The only one in your list I have read is The Martian and I loved it.
It’s a very popular choice this week.
Lynn π
I still really need to read The Martian!
It’s been such a popular choice this week.

I also agree on Scourge of the Betrayer and the Grim Company. If anyone asks me for dark fantasy recommendations I always make sure I include those!
I’ve not read Scourge of the Betrayer yet but I have all three so going to read them hopefully in fairly quick succession.

I am in the same boat with Hitchhiker’s! Someday I will get to the second book ;p Great list! I really love the cover to Wake!
My TTT
It is a lovely cover – I went for the four most colourful of the bunch. And it’s a very good and interesting read.

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is great. I listened to the first 3 books in the series. Martin Freeman does an awesome job narrating them.
I will eventually move forward! The first was awesome after all.
