Top Ten Tuesday: Things Characters Have Said

TTT

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme where every Tuesday we look at a particular topic for discussion and use various (or more to the point ten) bookish examples to demonstrate that particular topic.  Top Ten Tuesday (created and hosted by  The Broke and Bookish) is now being hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and future week’s topics can be found here.  This week’s prompt is:

Things Characters Have Said

I’ve decided to have a bit of fun with this one.  I’ve chosen ten, fairly (I think) well known books/quotes.  They’re highlighted below.  See if you can guess the book (scroll down for answers):

***

“There’s more of gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are!”

***

“Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean: like butter that has been scraped over too much bread.”

***

“Sir,”she said,”you are no gentleman!”

“An apt observation,” he answered airily. “And, you, Miss, are no lady.”

***

“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”

***

“And so the lion fell in love with the lamb.”

***

“Once again…welcome to my house. Come freely. Go safely; and leave something of the happiness you bring.”

***

“Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again.”

***

“Always winter but never Christmas.”

***

“Trust me, Wilbur. People are very gullible. They’ll believe anything they see in print.”

***

“My Oberon, what visions have I seen!  Methought I was enamored of an ass.”

How fun! I thought we had to guess the character so I only got #2: Bilbo Baggins, but I was familiar with a lot more of these than I expected even if I didn’t know the specific character that said them

I’m glad you enjoyed it – perhaps I needed to make it a bit clearer but still just a bit of fun.

Really fun list. I guessed about half of them, and I love that you included Twilight😁

Thanks – I tried to find some more obscure books but it was difficult to come up with quotes that would give people a chance.

There were a few here I recognised but I can’t believe I didn’t get the Dracula one 😀

It’s not as easy as it looks. I do like that Dracula quote.
