Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book (this doesn’t have to be a book that you’ve read), compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future’s themes are listed below – if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme. I’ve also listed events that take place during the year, that I’m aware of, so you can link up your covers – if you’re aware of any events that you think I should include then give me a shout.
I’ve added themes in below. For information, I’m trying out some new ideas so along with coming up with particular items for book covers I thought we could also look for certain elements contained within the book or that play a large part in the story – this really broadens things out because I have plenty of more ideas with this – I’ve gone for a few of the Tough Travel Themes (so a book with that theme – just choose any book – the theme isn’t necessarily on the cover, then compare covers), also, I’ve thrown in some genres and some colours. Hopefully this will open things out a little and give us some more freedom to come up with new books.
This week’s theme:
Guess who’s back? – Vampires – popular again?
You just have to love vampires (there’s just something intriguing about the immortality of the immortals). Of course, every now and again they fall out of fashion but then we start to miss them all over again. Is it just me or do we seem to be enjoying a resurgence of the undead? Anyway, I recently read and loved Dowry of Blood by ST Gibson – my review will be up next week. I also have another book that I’m very much looking forward to called Reluctant Immortals by Gwendolyn Kiste. So, this week I’m going for a double whammy – a book I’ve already devoured and one that’s lined up ready. See what you think:
And:
My favourites:
Well, with the first book I love all the little attention to detail elements that are pulled onto the first cover and it’s very much I style that I like but this week I’ve going for the more sophisticated cover. The second set of covers are very colourful – the first cover I’m not really sure about – but then I’ve not read the story yet so it could fit the content perfectly. Without that knowledge though I’m going for the second cover. So my choices this week:
Do you have a favourite. Have you read either of these books yet – what do you think?
If you’re taking part in this week’s theme feel free to leave your link in the comments below.
If you know of an event that’s coming up let me know and I’ll try and include covers that work for the event itself so that you can link up to the Friday Face Off and, as always, if you wish to submit an idea then leave me a comment – or if you’d like to host a week then simply let me know. Also, I would just mention that it’s very possible that some of these might be repeats from previous FFOs although I have tried to invent more ‘open ended’ prompt that can be interpreted differently and also prompts that relate to emotions. Finally, don’t struggle with any of these, this is meant to be a fun way of highlighting books. If you can’t come up with a book you think fits for a particular week use a freebie – perhaps a recent read for example:

I love the original Dowry of Blood cover (I wanted to buy a copy but it out of print) and I agree with you on the second book, the UK cover is more to my liking😁
Yeah, it’s a shame when that happens and the original cover is no longer available.
Lynn 😀
Vampires *never* go out of fashion! 😀
Haha, I was thinking of the knock on effect that a certain popular twinkly vampire had in terms of a huge spate of vampire books followed by an overall feeling of being fed up with them.
I love the second Dowry of Blood cover a lot!
Yes, it’s very stylish.
Lynn 😀
I’m loving vampires this year. And I need to read Dowry of Blood.
I hope you get the chance to pick it up.
Lynn 😀
What a lovely choice! I was hoping to take part with my own favourite vampire book – Certain Dark Things, but events overtook me… But I like the look of both books. I prefer Dowry1 as I love the details, but like you, think the second cover for Reluctant Immortals is a better fit for a vampire story.
Yep, that first cover for the Immortals book seems to be a very unusual choice.
Lynn 😀
Wow the covers for Reluctant Immortals can’t be any more different!
I know!
