Friday Face Off : “You’re on Earth. There’s no cure for that.”

FFO

Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy .  This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers.  The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book (this doesn’t have to be a book that you’ve read), compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite.   Future week’s themes are listed below – if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme.  I’ve also listed events that take place during the year, that I’m aware of, so you can link up your covers – if you’re aware of any events that you think I should include then give me a shout.  This week’s theme:

Planets – “You’re on Earth. There’s no cure for that.”

Firstly, I’m still playing catch up and catching up with blog hopping and comments but slowly but surely I’m making progress.

This is one of the themes I came up with to coincide with the sci fi event taking place during November so hope you’ve all come up with something good.  I’ve gone fairly old school with this with a book that is both sci fi and fantasy.  Curious? Dragonflight (Dragonriders of Pern #1) by Anne McCaffrey.  Here are this week’s covers:

Pern1

Do you have a favourite?

I’ll be updating the list in order to include forthcoming events that I’m aware of so that you can perhaps link your themes up where possible (if you know of an event you’d like to share then let me know in the comments).  As always, if you wish to submit an idea then leave me a comment – or if you’d like to host a week then simply let me know.

Next week – Bright – ‘The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades’.

Future themes: (if you’re struggling with any of these themes then use a ‘freebie’ or one of your favourite covers) (I’ve added some new themes – some of these are slightly different, in order to avoid too much repetition I’m trying to make the themes more of a suggestion that everyone can interpret how they like.

2020

13th November – Bright – ‘The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades’.

20th November – Words only – “Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts.”

27th November – Modern sci fi

4th December –  Fae – or fairy??

11th December – Lake – the mysterious lake

18th December – Highly Stylised

25th December- Freebie – or day off.

Beautiful pick! That is the cover I’m most familiar with but funny enough I never noticed the planet in the background until now! Distracted by the dragon, I guess 😀

  2. maddalena@spaceandsorcery

Dragons are always awesome and it would be difficult to pick a favorite there, although I must admit that the eye of the dragon in the first cover of the middle row is quite mesmerizing and it seems to look directly at me… 🙂

Don’t you just love eyes in pictures that follow you? Not creepy at all.
      Lynn 😀

[…] was to compare UK and US book covers and decide which is we prefer. This meme is being nurtured by Lynn’s Book Blog and this week we are featuring covers with PLANETS. I’ve selected Children of Time – Book 1 of […]

Ah… what a wonderful choice, Lynn:)). This one brought back so many happy, happy memories! And I need to go with the first one, because that’s the cover of the book we own:))). It’s buried up in the loft somewhere, but even if we get around to the major winnowing we keep promising ourselves – we won’t be getting rid of this one.

Wonderful covers! My favorite is the green one, the third on the top row. The Finnish translation used that one, too. I enjoyed the Pern books a lot, so thanks for reminding me of them.

    • @lynnsbooks

I only read the first one unfortunately, although I did mean to try and go back and pick up others it just never happened.
      Lynn 😀

I love the one you picked, but also #5. I think i used this book in another Friday Face Off because I recognize these covers😁

    • @lynnsbooks

Yes, to be honest it’s possible that I’ve used this one before but it did fit the theme so well and I like that it’s a cross of sci-fi and fantasy.
      Plus dragons.
      Lynn 😀

  7. confessionsofayareader

Great pick! I also like the second cover.

    • @lynnsbooks

There were lots of covers for this one so something for everyone 😀

This sounds like a fun challenge. Do you pick any book that has to do with the topic of the week? I just want to make sure.

    • @lynnsbooks

Hi, Yes, the rules are very loose. You try to pick a book that has a cover that fits the week’s theme and compare the different cover that the book has and choose a favourite. I usually choose books I’ve read but that isn’t necessary. Lynn 😀

Perfect pick for this topic! I really love the green cover, but I also like this one a lot too. 🙂
