“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme that was originally created by Breaking the Spine. Unfortunately Breaking the Spine are no longer hosting so I’m now linking my posts up to Wishful Endings Can’t Wait Wednesday. Don’t forget to stop over, link up and check out what books everyone else is waiting for. If you want to take part, basically, every Wednesday, we highlight a book that we’re really looking forward to. This week my book is : The Shape of Darkness by Laura Purcell – because LAURA PURCELL!!!!!! That is all.
As the age of the photograph dawns in Victorian Bath, silhouette artist Agnes is struggling to keep her business afloat. Still recovering from a serious illness herself, making enough money to support her elderly mother and her orphaned nephew Cedric has never been easy, but then one of her clients is murdered shortly after sitting for Agnes, and then another, and another… Why is the killer seemingly targeting her business?
Desperately seeking an answer, Agnes approaches Pearl, a child spirit medium lodging in Bath with her older half-sister and her ailing father, hoping that if Pearl can make contact with those who died, they might reveal who killed them.
But Agnes and Pearl quickly discover that instead they may have opened the door to something that they can never put back…
Expected publication : January 2021
I added this book to my TBR earlier this week as well! The publisher looks to be UK based though, so I sense a 9 month to a year wait for it to come to the US like her other books 😛
I can’t wait, I was so excited when I saw it!
Lynn 😀
Definitely one for the TBR because how could I not?! 🙂
Indeed – how could you not??
Lynn 😀
A Victorian era mystery with a touch of the supernatural sounds like a delightful read!
Thanks for sharing 🙂
I love this author so it’s always exciting to see a new release by her.
Lynn 😀
Oh this sounds so good! I am so ready for a Victorian mystery! 😀
I know – I nearly feel out of my seat when I saw this. Happy days.
Lynn 😀
Oh how exciting! But once again, she seems to be publishing in the UK only for now…
I hadn’t realised that but I imagine it will soon cross the ocean – although no doubt with a different cover and title.
Lynn 😀
I can’t believe I’ve not read this author yet. Even though I know I own several of her books.
I highly recommend the Silent Companions it completely took me by storm.
Lynn 😀
Well I know how excited for a new Purcell haha. 🙂 Hope you enjoy this one!
PURCELL!!! Get this book in my life quick sharp in a hurry.
Lynn 😀
Meant to say ‘how excited you are, I typed too fast LOL. 😀
I figured it out 😀
🙂
I just picked up her book, The Silent Companions, earlier this week. It is on my pile for this year’s R.I.P. challenge.
I hope you love it – I was very pleasantly surprised by it.
Lynn 😀
Ooo sounds spookily good read for the coming autumn. Happy reading! 😊
I just adore this author. She is brilliant at gothic.
Lynn 😀
This ones sounds fabulous – I’ve seen this author’s name regularly around the boards, so I’ve just scampered across to Netgalley and requested it! Fingers crossed…
She is so good at ‘gothic’. I love her.
Lynn 😀
I may well come back and check this one out. I so much enjoyed Mexican Gothic – it would be fun to explore that sub-genre a bit more!
