“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme that was originally created by Breaking the Spine. Unfortunately Breaking the Spine are no longer hosting so I’m now linking my posts up to Wishful Endings Can’t Wait Wednesday. Don’t forget to stop over, link up and check out what books everyone else is waiting for. If you want to take part, basically, every Wednesday, we highlight a book that we’re really looking forward to. This week my book is : Driftwood by Marie Brennan. Shut the front door and give me this book, ahem, please. Pretty please even with cherries and sprinkles and cream.
Who is Last?
Fame is rare in Driftwood–it’s hard to get famous if you don’t stick around long enough for people to know you. But many know the guide, Last, a one-blooded survivor who has seen his world end many lifetimes ago. For Driftwood is a strange place of slow apocalypses, where continents eventually crumble into mere neighborhoods, pulled inexorably towards the center in the Crush. Cultures clash, countries fall, and everything eventually disintegrates.
Within the Shreds, a rumor goes around that Last has died. Drifters come together to commemorate him. But who really was Last? Lying liar, or heroic savior? A mercenary, a charlatan, a legend? A man, an immortal–perhaps even a god?
Discover Marie Brennan (The Memoirs of Lady Trent)’s incomparable Driftwood, a realm of fragments cohered into a myth that encompasses realities.
Due for publication: July 2020
Whoa, a new Marie Brennan? Sign me the hell up!
I know – I was so excited about this one.
Lynn 😀
Ooooooh a new Marie Brennan? This sounds fabulous!
I did have to read the description a couple of times – it’s quite unusual sounding, but then I like unusual and I love this author so it’s a no-brainer really.
Lynn 😀
I’m intrigued, although the blurb doesn’t tell you much. I have never read Brennan, which is a shame. I need to start her Lady Trent series at some point.
Yes, I was thinking the same thing about the blurb but as it’s Brennan I definitely want to pick it up.
Lynn 😀
For some reason, I like the sound of “slow apocalypses”… 🙂
Yes, this is a very strange description, I want to read the book because of the author but it has an unusual sounding premise.
Lynn 😀
I keep meaning to read Lady Trent but haven’t yet. I do own them all in hardback thanks to Book Outlet. I have read one other book by her, a novella I think, which I really liked. I’ll be keeping my eyes open for some reviews on this one.
I’ve read her before so I’m keen to see how this works out – although the description is very strange and a little bit vague.
Lynn 😀
Great pick – the blurb is intriguing.
How have I not heard about this til now???? Thanks for bringing this to my attention, new Marie Brennan, woooooo!
I really like that cover. I hope you enjoy this one.
Ooo… a new Marie Brennan! I LOVE her writing… Thank you for the heads-up, Lynn – I’ll have to see if I can get hold of this one:)
