Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below – the list has been updated to help out those of you who like to plan ahead – if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme. I’ve also listed events that take place during the year, that I’m aware of, so you can link up your covers – if you’re aware of any events that you think I should include then give me a shout. This week’s theme:
Pagan rituals/standing stones/blazing suns – a cover with your own interpretation
Today is the longest day of the year, Summer Solstice, and with that in mind I’ve left the theme open to interpretation. I’ve gone for a cover that always makes me think of long hazy summer days which is : Among Others by Jo Walton and here are the covers:
My favourites:
Difficult to choose between them but I think I’m inclined to choose:
I like the sepia tone and the sense of summer freedom that comes across with the little girl running barefoot through the field.
Which one is your favourite?
Like last week I’ve added a Mr Linky here so that you can leave a link if you wish or please leave me a link in the comments so we can all visit and check out each others covers. Thanks
I’ve updated the list and included themes through to the end of 2019 – I’ve also included events that I’m aware of so that you can perhaps link your themes up where possible (if you know of an event you’d like to share that let me know in the comments). I also have a list prepared for 2020 and so will set up a separate page soon for forthcoming themes. As always, if you wish to submit an idea then leave me a comment.
Next week – A cover that is striped

I totally suck. I have this book and it’s even signed by the author when I met her one year at Balticon, and yet I still haven’t read it! I do love the cover you chose though, for me it would be a tie between that one and the very last one (which is also in your top 3)
Yep, difficult to choose between them. And you totally don’t suck – you read more books than anybody I know – and review them all – which is the sticking point for me as I always tend to fall behind in spite of the best intentions. But, at the end of the day, there’ll never be enough hours to read everything whether we want to or not. Drat.

[…] UK and US book covers and decide which is we prefer. This meme is currently being nurtured by Lynn’s Book Blog and the subject this week featuring on any of our covers is the SUMMER SOLSTICE, seeing as this is […]
Oh, what a fabulous choice! And it doesn’t hurt that I love, love, LOVE this book – it’s one of my outstanding books of the decade… She is a genius – every subject she tackles she does so with apparent effortless originality and talent. But this one is the first book of hers I read, so it holds a special place in my heart:)). My favourite is the first one in the lovely tangerine with the magical stars – mostly because that’s the cover on the copy I read… Have a lovely weekend, Lynn.
I do love this author – especially her Thessaly trilogy. The tangerine cover is also the cover I read so it definitely calls to me. Hope you’re enjoying your weekend.
Lynn 😀
Ooo… that’s wonderful! I didn’t know you were a Jo Walton fan, too:)). No wonder we get on so well!
She writes so well – I really need to finish the Thessaly series.
Lynn :d
I loved the whole trilogy – I believe she has another book coming out this summer…
Yes, I think I’ve seen something about her next book which looks very good indeed and right up my street.
Lynn 😀
These are all lovely! My favorites are #1 and #6, both magical and joyful looking😁
Lots of summery covers here – although it’s not what I originally started looking for at all.
Lynn 😀
Great book choice. My favorite is #1 but I can see why you picked your fave – it also grabs my attention!
It was difficult to choose and I’d probably change my mind again if I had the chance.
Lynn 😀
It would be difficult to make a choice with so many beautiful covers, but still my eyes keep going to the left-hand cover in the last row: I like the contrast between the light at the center and the darkness surrounding it… 🙂
It was definitely a difficult choice and in fact if I go and look at these covers now I will probably change my mind again.
Lynn 😀
Great choice this week! There are a lot of good covers, but for me its a toss up between the one you chose and the one where she is touching the water.
I like that one too – it was a difficult decision.
Lynn 😀
I love all of these covers so much. I’ve never read this book, but it’s been on my radar for a while. I think it would be one I’d enjoy.
I think it would too
I like your choice 🙂
Thanks – a difficult choice because I liked a few of these.
