Friday Face Off : “Coraline opened the box of chocolates. The dog looked at them longingly.”

FFO

Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy .  This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers.  The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite.   Future week’s themes are listed below – the list has been updated to help out those of you who like to plan ahead – if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme.  I’ve also listed events that take place during the year, that I’m aware of, so you can link up your covers – if you’re aware of any events that you think I should include then give me a shout.  This week’s theme:

“Coraline opened the box of chocolates. The dog looked at them longingly.” – A cover featuring something sweet

Ohh this was a tough theme.  I did have a couple of books such as Chocolat or Willy Wonka but I think I’ve used them both before so I’ve gone for a book that I read many moons ago – a sweet book and a lovely read.  Magical realism if you like it.  My book this week is : The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen and here are the covers:

My favourite is – notice the cup cake:

Moon3

This cover is kind of simple but I just like it with all the little bits and pieces that feature in the story.

Which one is your favourite?

Like last week I’ve added a Mr Linky here so that you can leave a link if you wish or please leave me a link in the comments so we can all visit and check out each others covers.  Thanks

I’ve updated the list and included themes through to the end of 2019 – I’ve also included events that I’m aware of so that you can perhaps link your themes up where possible (if you know of an event you’d like to share that let me know in the comments).  I also have a list prepared for 2020 and so will set up a separate page soon for forthcoming themes.  As always, if you wish to submit an idea then leave me a comment.

Next week – Summer Solstice – the longest day of the year – Pagan rituals/standing stones/blazing suns – a cover with your own interpretation

These are such fun tags and when I have the ability to buy books again I am going to do them!

  2. Barb (boxermommyreads)

That’s my favorite this week as well but I also like the second one. Breaking news – I actually participated this week – but once you visit you’ll see why 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

Yep, I saw your covers and thought it was great seeing the different interpretation – which I was hoping for.
      Lynn 😀

  3. Tammy

I think I like the first one best, and I also like the way some bloggers are interpreting “sweet.” My mind immediately jumped to sugar, but I love the idea of sweet as in adorable😁

    • @lynnsbooks

Yes, I’m loving the interpretations – and in fact think I should go that way with future themes that are a bit more open to different ideas.
      Lynn 😀

Ooo… how inventive, looking at something sweet – as in adorable and cute… I didn’t do that! But I do love your favourite cover, which ticks both boxes:)). Have a lovely weekend, Lynn:)

    • @lynnsbooks

Thanks Sarah – hope your weekend was lovely.
      Lynn 😀

      • sjhigbee

Um. Nope, decorating the bathroom wasn’t lovely. But I did listen to a couple of cracking audiobooks as I was painting the tile grout and I am very happy with the result!

      • @lynnsbooks

        Silver linings 😀

  6. maddalena@spaceandsorcery

Lovely choice! I like the ethereal, dreamy quality of your favorite cover . 🙂

  7. Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum

Hahaha, literally the two choices I had in mind were Willy Wonka and Chocolat. I’m glad you went with your interpretation though, because some of these covers are lovely! I like the first one in the first row.

    • @lynnsbooks

They are quite sweet covers and I think I’ve used the other two so wanted to find something else – plus I think this theme is open to interpretation so hopefully not to difficult a theme.
      Lynn 😀

  8. Jackie

Yes, I notice the cupcake! Sweet 🙂 Good choice even though I’ve never heard of it.

    • @lynnsbooks

Yes, I read it a long time ago – pre blogging. A nice, sweet enjoyable read is my overriding memory.
      Lynn 😀

  9. jessicabookworm

Lynn, I love your choice 🙂

  10. waytoofantasy

Never heard of this one but it looks good. Love the covers too!

    • @lynnsbooks

Yes, this was pre-blogging, one of those magical realism stories that is very sweet.
      Lynn 😀

  11. PerfectlyTolerable

I agree with your choice! In my opinion it is the clear winner haha but I love stars and blue covers like that!
