“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme that was originally created by Breaking the Spine. Unfortunately Breaking the Spine are no longer hosting so I’m now linking my posts up to Wishful Endings Can’t Wait Wednesday. Don’t forget to stop over, link up and check out what books everyone else is waiting for. If you want to take part, basically, every Wednesday, we highlight a book that we’re really looking forward to. This week my book is : The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern – here’s why:
From the New York Times bestselling author of The Night Circus, a timeless love story set in a secret underground world–a place of pirates, painters, lovers, liars, and ships that sail upon a starless sea.
Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a mysterious book hidden in the stacks. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood. Bewildered by this inexplicable book and desperate to make sense of how his own life came to be recorded, Zachary uncovers a series of clues — a bee, a key, and a sword — that lead him to a masquerade party in New York, to a secret club, and through a doorway to an ancient library, hidden far below the surface of the earth.
What Zachary finds in this curious place is more than just a buried home for books and their guardians — it is a place of lost cities and seas, lovers who pass notes under doors and across time, and of stories whispered by the dead. Zachary learns of those who have sacrificed much to protect this realm, relinquishing their sight and their tongues to preserve this archive, and also those who are intent on its destruction.
Together with Mirabel, a fierce, pink-haired protector of the place, and Dorian, a handsome, barefoot man with shifting alliances, Zachary travels the twisting tunnels, darkened stairwells, crowded ballrooms, and sweetly-soaked shores of this magical world, discovering his purpose–in both the mysterious book and in his own life.
Due for Publication : November 2019
I know how long people have been waiting for another book by this author so I hope it lives up to everyone’s expectations.
Well, I haven’t read the first, which is a mixed blessing in a way – at least I won’t be comparing the two.
Lynn 😀
I hope this is good! I want it to be, but I’ll read it anyway because I want to see what she does next😁
Well, I confess, I haven’t read the first and I thought I might try this one first. So let’s see.
Lynn 😀
This sounds so very fascinating… The aura of mystery that comes from the synopsis is impossible to resist 🙂
I thought so too.
Lynn 😀
Yes, so excited for this one!
It does sound so good 😀
I didn’t love The Night Circus as much as others, but I’m still very curious about this one!
I haven’t read The Night Circus tbh although I do have a copy. I think I’d like to read the new one first rather than comparing the two.
Lynn 😀
This is actually the first time I read the synopsis and WOW! The synopsis feels incredibly atmospheric I can only imagine what the book is going to feel like.
It does sound really good. I’m going to confess here and now – I didn’t read the first book. I don’t know why, maybe the hype but more likely the lack of time. I do have a copy so I’ll have to read it -although now I don’t know whether to wait and try this one first.
Lynn 😀
Ahhh that’s a tough decision. I also have to decide if I should reread it to get a sense of her writing since been quite some time since I read it.
Decisions, decisions!
Lynn 😀
I almost featured Starless Sea this week! It sounds maaaarvelous 😀
It certainly does sound good 😀
This is one I’m definitely wanting to check out, mostly because I have such mixed feelings about The Night Circus–I want to see how this compares!
I haven’t read The Night Circus – the mixed reviews always put me off – I still kind of want to read it but at the same time I fancy maybe this one instead.
Lynn 😀
