Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme where every Tuesday we look at a particular topic for discussion and use various (or more to the point ten) bookish examples to demonstrate that particular topic.  Top Ten Tuesday (created and hosted by  The Broke and Bookish) is now being hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and future week’s topics can be found here.  This week’s topic is:

Places Mentioned In Books That I’d Like to Visit

I’ve mainly plumped for places that are real – although I have mixed in a bit of fantasy too.

The Shire – it looks such a lovely place – to be honest I just want to go and explore Bilbo’s Hobbit hole because I’m nosey like that.  I guess I could use this as a great excuse to visit New Zealand.

London  – I have visited a number of times but unbelievably never visited Harry Potter world – so I think another visit is needed.

Scotland – I actually have a visit planned to Scotland and I can’t wait – I’m thinking Highlander,  Outlander and the Rebel Angel series by Gillian Philip as inspiration – if any is needed.

Not really a place – although it does visit various places en-route – The Orient Express.  I would love to take a trip on this famous train.  I have Agatha Christie in mind as the inspiration of course although I’m not eager to have a murder on board – this one really is one of those pipe dreams – but that’s what dreams are for eh?

I would love to visit New York – I’m sure that there are many great books that use it as a setting but I loved The Immortals by Jordanna Max Brodsky and the way she wove some of the places into her story.

Barcelona – I loved Shadow of the Wind and this is a city that I’ve always wanted to see. One day – hopefully soon.

Transylvania – just because.  I know you can figure this one out.

I wonder if I visit Kansas whether I’ll be able to catch a trip to OZ….. maybe something a little bit safer than a twister.

And finally, what are the odds of scouring the countryside in search of a certain house and a certain wardrobe??

The last spot is left open for your favourite location straight out of a book?

Yup – go and check out the Carpathian Mountains and probably scare myself to death over a few shadows!

As a teen I wanted to go to London desperately. While I’m still interested, I have to admit to being too much of a homebody now that I’m older and I really have no desire to travel much. Great list though.

    • @lynnsbooks

Thanks. In spite of living in the UK it’s only in recent years that we’ve visited London – which feels a bit naughty really. We were too busy travelling elsewhere.
      Lynn 😀

I would actually love to live in a hobbit hole, I can’t imagine any place cozier 😊

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, Bilbo’s little (well actually deceptively large) hobbit hole was so lovely.
      Lynn 😀

My favorite place to visit is Venice. Great list!

    • @lynnsbooks

Yes, I loved Venice too and would quite happily revisit. Such a beautiful place.
      Lynn 😀

Oooh great choices ❤ London and Scotland are two of my top places I want to visit ❤

I would totally visit the shire! I kind of wish I had a hobbit house actually lol.

    • @lynnsbooks

I know – it would be kind of cool wouldn’t it.
      Lynn 😀

Scotland… I went there in 1982 (which makes is AGES ago…) and I fell in love with the place: there is something truly magical there, and I know you will find yourself at home once you get there! 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

I’m very excited and we already have plans! Magical sounds great.
      Lynn 😀

I;ve been to London and NY and could always go back to both because there’s so much to see and do, can’t do everything. I would love to get to Scotland

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, we’ve been to London a few times but I would still go back and I would love to visit NY.
      Lynn 😀

The Shire is a popular place this week, for good reason. I made a hobbit character in the game in Lord of the Rings Online just so I could have a hobbit house in the Shire 😀

    • @lynnsbooks

It’s not surprising really – I suppose you could say that Tolkien created the Shire to be the exact opposite of Mordor.
      Lynn 😀

I’m with you on all those dream destinations…well, not Transylvania. 😉

  11. Carmen

I’m with you on all those dreams destinations, sans Transylvania, of course. 😉

New Zealand and Scotland are pretty high on my list of places to visit. And Kansas…. oddly enough I’ve heard that Kansas City is pretty awesome and has lots of great places to eat!

    • @lynnsbooks

Yay for Kansas – maybe I’ll get to go there one day 😀

Lynn, I would also love to go to The Shire, Barcelona and through a certain wardrobe 😉 Into your empty slot I would put Hogwarts, which links in nicely to the fact you haven’t been to the Harry Potter Studios in London. It is amazing! Whilst there you can go in Hogwarts’ great hall; see many of the classrooms and go in the forbidden forest 😀 However I would also like to visit some of the real places they used to film parts of Hogwarts too, like Alnwick Castle and Durham and Gloucester Cathedrals.

    • @lynnsbooks

We visited Alnwick Castle when we stayed up in Northumberland for a few days. It was great I will have to visit the Potter studios.
      Lynn 😀
