Friday Face Off : ‘I know I have the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a king’
Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below – the list has been updated to help out those of you who like to plan ahead – if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme. This week’s theme:
‘I know I have the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a king’ – A cover that depicts a novel set in the Tudor period
I couldn’t find too many books on my shelves that fitted the theme, well, I could have picked a purely historical novel but I was trying to find something with fantasy elements and so chose Midnight Never Come (The Onyx Court #1) by Marie Brennan:
The covers:
The first cover looks quite sinister to me and more like a vampire type novel than one in which a fae underworld exists. I’m not absolutely in love with any of the covers this week although the one I’ve chosen is good in terms of being a bit more representative of the story.
My favourite this week is:
Like last week I’ve added a Mr Linky here so that you can leave a link if you wish or please leave me a link in the comments so I can visit and check out your covers. Thanks
Next week – A cover featuring an Amulet

Thanks – it was quite a good read so I’m not sure why I didn’t continue with the series but it was the first book I thought of this week.
Lynn 😀
For me, it’s a close tie between the first and the fourth but I would have to give the edge to the one you chose as well. I am familiar with this author but not this title. Hmmmm…
Yeah, I remember quite liking this book and yet I never searched out more in the series – which is odd.
Lynn 😀
I LOVE the one you picked. You do need the larger version to see all the cool details, though. Great choice!
Yeah, it’s quite a nice cover.

I like the first cover best! Tho after reading your explanation, that makes sense on why you didn’t pick it
I don’t know if it’s just me but that cover practically screams vampire – don’t ask me why.
Lynn 😀
It is a dazzling cover. I also liked the one with the clock.
Good choice! That and the third cover are IMHO the best, while the second one truly gives me the creeps!!! 😀
I was only vaguely aware of this book, I had no idea it had Tudor vibes. That’s my favorite cover too!
Apparently the rest of the series was good – I should go and check it out.
Lynn 😀
I love this series. But I must agree that the last represents the book better than the others.
I haven’t read the rest of the series but I’ll have to go and check it out – thanks.
Lynn 😀
I love your choice and it’s lovely book, though I far prefer the brilliant sequel ‘In Ashes Lie’ but represents the Tudor period brilliantly:)
Ahh, cool, I didn’t read further but perhaps I should
Lynn 😀
In Ashes Lie tackles the fire of London and her take on it is brilliantly clever.
Adds to TBR
😀
