“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme that was originally created by Breaking the Spine. Unfortunately Breaking the Spine are no longer hosting so I’m now linking my posts up to Wishful Endings Can’t Wait Wednesday. Don’t forget to stop over, link up and check out what books everyone else is waiting for. If you want to take part, basically, every Wednesday, we highlight a book that we’re really looking forward to. This week my book is : Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield. I love Diane Setterfield’s writing – The Thirteenth Tale is a book that I would highly recommend, gothic brilliance.
A dark midwinter’s night in an ancient inn on the Thames. The regulars are entertaining themselves by telling stories when the door bursts open on an injured stranger. In his arms is the drowned corpse of a little child.
Hours later the dead girl stirs, takes a breath and returns to life.
Is it a miracle?
Is it magic?
Or can it be explained by science?
Replete with folklore, suspense and romance, as well as with the urgent scientific curiosity of the Darwinian age, Once Upon a River is as richly atmospheric as Setterfield’s bestseller The Thirteenth Tale.
Due For Publication: January 2019
Well, this sounds intriguing. That cover is interesting as well. Going to add this one to my list (oh, how it grows…lol).
Yep – the ever growing tbr!
Lynn 😀
I am so excited to have this one coming up too! I hope it’s a great read for both of us!
Such a lovely author.
Lynn 😀
I read The Thirteenth Tale years ago and loved it. This sounds so good!
Yep, I loved that book – can’t wait for this one now
Lynn 😀
This sounds fantastic!
Yeah, I love the sound of it too.
Lynn 😀
What a lovely premise – and I love that cover…
Have you read The Thirteenth Tale??
No! I’ve just been on Goodreads and looked it up – and judging by the HUGE number of ratings and reviews, I’m about the only person in the Universe who hasn’t read this one! I love the blurb and it definitely needs to go onto my TBR pile!
Ohh, it’s so good – and very popular. I just really like her writing.
Lynn 😀
It sounds like I would, too!
I will be reading this one too, Lynn. Looking forward to it. Hope you enjoy it.
Fingers crossed – I realise that I probably have unrealistically high expectations because I do like this author very much.
Lynn 😀
Most advance reviews have been outstanding, so indeed fingers crossed we too love this one. 🙂
I can’t wait.
Lynn 😀
This sounds like a book I want to wait for too!
I like her style of writing – she definitely has a way with words.
Lynn 😀
I still have to read The Thirteenth Tale, but I’m very much looking forward to this one. And I figure you can’t go wrong with a book with a swan on its cover 😀
The Thirteenth Tale was very good – and very well liked. I also liked Bellman and Black although I’m not sure it was quite as well received as her first book – I enjoyed it though. I have high expectations for this one and I do love the cover.
Lynn 😀
I think I avoided Thirteenth Tale because I thought it was one of those overhyped books, but now I kind of want to try it!
I’ve had my eye on this one, it sounds good!
I really liked the Thirteenth Tale and Bellman and Black so I guess I’ve probably got unrealistic expectations. But, fingers crossed.
Lynn 😀
The Thirteenth Tale is one of my all time favorite books! I cannot wait to read this one. Have you read any of Kate Morton’s books? She does gothic well too 🙂
I think I’ve only read the one – can’t remember the title – Secret Garden?? maybe? I enjoyed it though, I should look up some of her others – what would you recommend.
Lynn 😀
I’ve only read The Forgotten Garden and The Distant Hours. Both excellent! I actually get to meet her in a few short weeks while she’s on tour for her recent release!!!
Ohh, that will be lovely, enjoy.
Lynn 😀
