August : My Month in Review
August came and went. I had a good month in many respects with lots of summertime socialising although my reading, similar to July, has felt a little slow. As with last month I’ve read a total of seven books and I’m trying to catch up with my reviews although I do have a few to post. My lovely looking covers are here. Here’s my month in review:
Books read: this month = 7
- The Tower of Living and Dying by Anna Smith Spark
- Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett
- Temper by Nicky Drayden
- City of Lies by Sam Hawke
- The Mystery of Three Quarters by Sophie Hannah
- Bad Man by Dathan Auerbach
- Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce
What’ve you been reading??

Books Bought:
I’ve bought a few audio books this month using some credits I’d accrued. I can’t wait to start these:
- Record of A Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers
- Starless by Jacqueline Carey
- The Tethered Mage by Melissa Caruso
- Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse
Review Books
- Sisters of the Wood by Rena Rosswood
- Salvation’s Fire by Justina Robson
- The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley
- Dracul by Dacre Stoker and J D Barker
- The Fall by Tracy Townsend
- The Binding by Bridget Collins
- Dragonshadow by Ella Katharine White
I have a couple of covers to compare:
I quite like both of these but on balance would probably choose the second cover.
Finally, the SPFBO. The first month is coming to an end. I’ve read at least the first 30% of all my six books and will be posting the outcome tomorrow.
Seems like a pretty good month. Lots of good reads!
It feels relatively slow – I regularly read 10/12 books a month so at the moment it feels like things have really slowed down, but, I also think it’s a result of a lot more socialising which just swallows the time.
Lynn 😀
Socializing really does take up a lot of time, I’m almost looking forward to winter 😂
I am very excited to read Record of a Spaceborn Few myself. It’s on the docket for September hopefully. Or, the fall in general if not. Lol
Yeah, I’ve loved the previous two books so I’m excited to pick up a copy too.
Lynn 😀
I was a bit on the fence with Dracul. It looks great, but my poor tbr! I look forward to your thoughts to see if I should check it out 😀
I couldn’t resist tbh – so we’ll see!
Lynn 😀
Trail of Lightening looks amazing. I’m hoping to add it to my shelves soon. Great month.
Thanks – I hope to read that soon, it’s had some brilliant reviews.
Lynn 😀
Great choices for the audiobooks!!
Thanks – now I just need to remember to take my earphones everywhere.
Lynn 😀
I’ve been thinking of reading Townsend’s The Nine this month as part of my “tackle some of these poor unread books that have been languishing on your shelf” readathon…which I just made up 😀 And I’m so very excited about The Binding! We need more stories book binding in the world.
I hope you love the Townsend book – I’m so excited about No.2.
Lynn 😀
Lynn, for once we read a similar amount of books! Let’s hope we both make progress with catching up with our reviews!
Absolutely, catching up on reviews is something I’m always striving to do.
Lynn 😀
I can’t wait to see what you think about The Tethered Mage! The series is SO GOOD and the author is just positively lovely. ❤
Excellent – now, if I could just remember to listen to my audio books when I’m doing other things…..
