Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below – the list has been updated to help out those of you who like to plan ahead – if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme. This week’s theme:
Knock, knock… ‘who’s there?’ – A cover featuring a door, ajar or closed
I found this week’s theme a lot easier and had a few potential covers but went with: Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children #1) by Seanan McGuire. A book I loved and a series I need to seriously catch up with.
My covers:
That third cover is very different from the other four isn’t it! I think my favourite, and I realise that these are all quite similar is:
I like the sun rays and the little specks of light. I just feel that this cover is more crisply defined somehow.
Which is your favourite?
Next week – a cover with a title featuring the word ‘legend’

[…] UK and US book covers and decide which is we prefer. This meme is currently being nurtured by Lynn’s Book Blog and the theme this week to feature on any of our covers is a door. I’ve selected A Wind in the […]
This is an excellent choice of book for this week’s theme, Lynn – well done. And what a lovely selection – except for the oddity that simply doesn’t work. While they are similar, there are also important differences – my favourite is your second choice, because it’s not as dark as the UK cover that I read, but I love the way the title and author fonts are angled to appear as if they are emerging through the half-open doorway. It is such an apparently small detail, but gives the whole cover a three-dimensional aspect. I do enjoy this meme!
I love this meme! And yes, there are these subtle differences but they make such a difference don’t they.
Lynn 😀
They really, really do. And I’ve learnt first hand just how much difference they can make to book sales!
Like your pick for this one for the same reasons. I loved the very beginning of this book and the ending but I felt let down by the murder mystery plot. Still, I love the series overall and I think the second book is perfection. 🙂
Ohh, ‘perfection’ I need to get my grabby hands on that then.
Lynn 😀
This is the first book I thought of as well, but I couldn’t find enough covers. But you found some I hadn’t seen. I still love the original Tor.com version the best.
I love all those covers in the forest – they’re very similar but the subtle differences all bring something different. Plus, great book.
Lynn 😀
Agreed! The theme of the out-of-context doorway in the forest is a powerful one and it’s perfect – in its many variations – for the story’s core concept.
I love all those covers with the forest. They all have different elements that appeal.
Lynn 😀
This is the perfect book choice for this week’s theme. And you are right, while I love the US version, this one makes it more crisp so I think it’s that much better.
I like the cover next to it, the one with the golden light.
I like all three of those covers that are very similar and the one you like as a lovely warm glow doesn’t it.
Lynn 😀
I agree with your pick! I don’t know if its the twinkles or the words in front of the door instead of through it, but it is just cleaner looking
I haven’t read the book, but the Russian(?) one next to it is nice too
It’s a good book although I do need to catch up with the series.
Lynn 😀

I like the second one. Something about the half glimpsed figure through the doorway and the red flowers around the door really speaks to me!
Yeah, I see where you’re coming from.
Lynn 😀
I do like that the one on the top right is markedly different from the rest! And with the top left and the bottom two, I guess it’s just a matter of your forest floor preference? I’ll go with the one you chose since it’s got a nice mix of green and red!
It’s funny but the small differences make me almost feel like a different season is depicted.
Lynn 😀
Lynn, not a book I know but I do love all these covers! I agree though, I think the spots and rays of light just give the last cover an edge. However, for once, I knew exactly which book I would have chosen as soon as I saw this topic. I would have picked Stephen King’s The Drawing of the Three. 😀
Ohh, you should have posted – that’s a great choice.
Lynn 😀
Thank you 🙂 Shame I didn’t know what the theme was till I’d read your post!
