Ahh, months may come and months may go but I’m sort of relieved that the month of May has reached it’s end.  Don’t get me wrong, I can’t complain, just things seem to have been a little hectic and even though I’ve managed to read eight books I’ve achieved very little else in terms of reviews.  I do feel very guilty but the best laid plans, etc, etc.  Anyway, I hope you’ve all had a good month.    My Month in Covers is here.

Books read:  this month = 8

  1. The Wisdom of Sally Red Shoes by Ruth Hogan
  2. The Poppy War by R F Kuang
  3. Cross Her Heart by Sarah Pinborough
  4. The Way Into Chaos by Harry Connolly
  5. The Testament of Loki by Joanne M Harris
  6. The Crimson Queen by Alec Hutson
  7. Where Loyalties Lie by Rob J Hayes
  8. Death March by Phil Tucker

What’ve you been reading??

Backlist books

None this month

Unfinished series completed:

I’ve not completed any series but I have read all my SPFBO books and just need to review and rate them now.

Books Bought:

None this month – which is almost never heard of – but there you go, shows how wrapped up I was, no time even to scan the bookshelves.  Tragedy am I.

Review Books:

  1. Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
  2. The Queen’s of Innis Lear by Tessa Gratton
  3. The Grey Bastards by Jonathan French
  4. Redemption’s Blade by Adrian Tchaikovsky

I have a couple of covers to compare and one particular cover to highlight.

I think this is the first time I’ve seen the UK covers for Spinning Silver and Innis Lear. I think I might prefer both to their US counterparts!

    • @lynnsbooks

I like both versions if I’m really honest – the Innis Lear ones in particular.
      Lynn 😀

  2. Tammy

I actually love both of the Queens of Innis Lear covers, it’s hard to choose!

I also got Redemption’s Blade to review and I can’t wait to dive in!

    • @lynnsbooks

Yay – let’s hope it’s really good. I do like Tchaikovsky so I’m really happy to have a copy.

        Fingers crossed!
I bought Children of Time awhile go and I still haven’t gotten to it. I’m a sucker for generation ship/new worlds stories.

      • @lynnsbooks

I bought Children of Time too. I’m looking forward to getting to it.
        Lynn 😀

WOW, the cover for Death March is quite arresting!

  5. Kathy @Pages Below the Vaulted Sky

I’m partial to the UK covers for both books. Though I do like that the US one for Spinning Silver supplies all the characters portraits!

Lynn, eight books is, as always, a great amount and well done on completing all your SPFBO books 🙂 As for myself, I finished 5 books, which is up on my previous couple of months. And as for your covers, I totally agree: it has to be the first cover in both cases. Happy reading in June and I look forward to your thoughts on The Testament of Loki 😀

    • @lynnsbooks

To you also Jessica – I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts on your May reads.
      Lynn 😀

Oddly, I like the second cover for Spinning Silver and the first for The Queens of Innis Lear. I think the colors and the overall compositions appeal more to me. 😀

SPFBO is such a lot of work, my hats off to you for that. Hope June is a little less hectic for you.

    • @lynnsbooks

I’ve finished my SPFBO books now and just need to score and review. I enjoy doing it tbh. Yeah, the second cover is nice, actually I don’t dislike any of the covers really.
      Lynn 😀
