‘Let’s talk of graves, of worms, and epitaphs;’

Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below – the list has been updated to help out those of you who like to plan ahead – if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme. This week’s theme:
‘Let’s talk of graves, of worms, and epitaphs;’ – a cover featuring a gravestone
My first thoughts this week were Moon Called and The Graveyard book, but I think I’ve used both of those before so I’ve opted for: Dead to the World (Sookie Stackhouse #4) by Charlaine Harris :
I’m going for the simple cover this week. I like the last cover but it has an almost comedy element to it that I didn’t really quite understand – this is a fun series but it’s not an outright riot of giggles. I also like the series of covers bottom left) but my favourite this week:

Next week – a cover featuring footsteps’

I almost chose this book this week too, but I found a different one I liked better 😀 I like the top left cover best. I like the idea of the bottom right one, but I am just not a fan of the artwork, tho that is the cover that I read.
Yes, the bottom right style of covers are unusual aren’t they – they have an almost comic feel to them which I never really understood. The books that I owned were the ones with the very white female faces on the covers.
Lynn 😀
Good choice: that splash of blood is offset by the blue background, as if to signal that the drama is balanced by something else, while a darker or black background might have led the readers to believe otherwise…
Yes, there’s blood and vampires but they’re not scary stories so your point about the background colour is spot on.
Lynn 😀
That last cover is definitely my favourite. Though the cartoony art-style *is* rather confusing. 😀 I watched True Blood before I even knew about the books. Then one day I saw the cover for Book 1 and was like, “How on earth did they get *this* show from *this* book?”
Yeah, the show definitely didn’t stick to the books – but that’s the way quite often with adaptations. The show was very ‘over sexed’ – I remember we watched the start of the series and my husband was like ‘isn’t this a series of books you’ve been reading’ – with a knowing look in his eyes as though to say ‘so this is the style of books you read!’ – to be honest the books weren’t really like that.
Lynn 😀
Awesome covers you got this week! I liked the first one the best, the one with the cross earrings! Here’s my Friday Face Off:

That is a lovely cover and the colours are dramatic.
Lynn 😀
Oh good choice. I had a hard time with the theme so I did the “freebie.” I can’t say I’m crazy about any of these covers, and the last cover is the one I have (I agree, they are very “comic” looking with doesn’t necessarily fit the story). But I guess I would go with the first one as my favorite.
It’s a lovely dramatic cover isn’t it – in terms of the colouring.
Lynn 😀
My favorite is the bottom left, but familiarity might have something to do with it. I also love the art style though, there’s something so charming about it 🙂
I do like those covers but was always a bit puzzled by them. Although, it is a fun style series so there is that.
Lynn 😀
Lynn, you’ve reminded me that I really need to go back, restart and continue reading this series.
I did eventually finish the series – although I wasn’t enamoured with the ending.
It might work better for you.
Lynn 😀
I love this series, but I really don’t think much of any of the covers – your choice is the best and is the one I read, which never hurts. I grabbed the freebie option as I was a bit stymied by this one – which is a GREAT option to add, Lynn:))
I figured I should add in that whole ‘freebie’ idea – some of the themes can be a bit tough and it’s still good to highlight a cover you like isn’t it.
Lynn 😀
Yes, I think it was a stroke of genius!
I love the first cover on the top row. The red looks very striking against the extra-white skin.
My very thoughts too.
Lynn 😀
