“Yeah, but, John, if The Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don’t eat the tourists.”
Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below – the list has been updated to help out those of you who like to plan ahead – if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme. This week’s theme:
‘Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth’ – a cover featuring a dinosaur/s
I expected this to be more difficult than it turned out. I had another couple of books in mind but I decided to go for a classic (funnily enough, now I think about it my other books were classics two so I’m intrigued to see if there are more modern books with dinosaurs now I’ve thought about it. My choice: Jules Verne’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth. There are lots of covers for this so I’ve tried to stick with a selection that reflect the theme. Feast your eyes on these:
This is a tough choice. I like a few of these for different reasons. I think my favourites are:
But my winner, which just feels over-the-top-outrageous is:
Next week – a cover that is a ‘freebie’ – simply choose a book you love and compare covers – it should be an interesting week 😀

Yes, I agree that’s the most colorful and catching one, though I like all three covers in Spanish. 🙂
I was surprised by all these colourful covers for this book. Some lovely ones I think.
Lynn 😀
You picked the one I love as well. It has the best combination of colors!
It’s just so eye catching isn’t it.
Lynn 😀
I LOVE the cover you picked! There are so many colorful choices for this book. Great choice, I didn’t even think about this one!
It was another week I was struggling with and then I recalled this and figured being a classic it would have plenty of covers.
Lynn 😀
This is such a great idea! And I do love the cover you chose. So pretty.
Thanks – you should join in. 😀
Its funny that for you it ended up being easier to pick a book than you thought it would be. For me it was the opposite. I thought it would be easy to find a book but it turned out to be kinda hard. I agree with the cover you chose! That is the one I would have chosen too.
Thanks – it’s lovely and colourful isn’t it – this week started out tough but then I thought Jurassic Park was sure to be an option – then I remembered reading this a few years ago and because of it’s age knew it would have plenty of covers.
Lynn 😀
That was my favorite of the bunch as well
There are some good covers here but I love this explosion of colour.
Lynn 😀
This is a fabulous choice of books – you’ve always got such a great selection for this meme, Lynn. And yes – once again, your favourite nails it. There are some lovely details in this one, as well as a beautiful blending of colours… Have a great weekend:)
Hope this weekend is good for you too – and sorry I’m so late commenting. Things have just gone a bit pear shaped the past two weeks.
Lynn 😀
Oh don’t worry about being late – we all have lives outside bloggerland… Hope the pearshapedness isn’t too much of a problem and you have a good week:)
Yeah, not really a problem just so much as life happening a lot more intensely and not leaving a great deal of energy for other things.
Lynn 😀
I hope it isn’t being too intense in a bad way! Ah yes… energy – that’s the thing I recall having in my 20s….
No, not a bad way, just time consuming. Haha – I recall having energy too although it feels like a very long time ago.
Lynn 😀
Oh my gosh I love all the different covers for this! The one you picked is my favorite too, it’s just so imaginative and colorful! I also like the one with the whitish mushrooms, and the volcano one. Awesome!
I was ridiculously happy when I thought of this book and saw the selection of available covers. The mushrooms are great and I very nearly chose that cover but I couldn’t resist the colour and imagination of my final choice
Lynn 😀
Lynn, great book and cover choice 😀 I love the wonderful psychedelic colours and feel of it.
It’s so dramatic and eye catching. I really like it.
Lynn 😀
Good one! I have never read this classic, can you believe it? I love your choice!
I have read a lot of classics and I do find that they come in handy for some of these themes. But, I tend to read hardly any classics any more – I did try to continue by joining in with the Classics Club but I need to revisit my list and try to get back on board.
Lynn 😀
One of my favourite childhood reads! And the cover you chose was my choice too – awesome, colourful, makes-me-wanna-read-it … Yay! for great book covers! 😀
It’s a lovely cover – in fact I really like quite a few of these and it made the final choice more difficult.
Lynn 😀
