Friday Face Off : ‘A Hand without a hand? A bad jape, sister.’

FFO.jpg

Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy .   This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers.  The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite.   Future week’s themes are listed below – the list has been updated to help out those of you who like to plan ahead – if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme. This week’s theme:

‘A Hand without a hand? A bad jape, sister.’ – a cover featuring a hand/hands

I had a couple of books in mind for this week’s theme but they all went a bit pear shaped.  And, I confess I then struggled a little.   Until I came across The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan – I read this series ages ago (it feels like it anyway).  So, check out the covers:

I like the original black and red cover (middle second row) but my favourite this week :

theforest7

Whoa, check out all the upcoming themes! They make me so happy I started doing this meme every week😊 I actually thought of several options for this week, so I think we’ll see a lot of variety. I love your choice, that’s my favorite too!

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, I was happy to put some more themes up. I’m trying not to duplicate.
      Lynn 😀

  2. Barb (boxermommyreads)

I read this years ago and honestly, didn’t like it. It was pretty darn slow and it kept reminding me of that movie “The Village.” The one I read is the first one you showed but I think my favorite of these is the one you picked as well. You know, maybe I’ll try this next week. I love visiting everyone’s sites when they do it. We’ll see 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

Yes, yes, join us. There are lots of future topics now – I admit I’m not sure if I’ll be able to come up with covers for some of them but I’ll give it a shot. Yes, this book did have a ‘The Village’ type feel – I ended up reading the whole series – I was going through a decided zombies and vampires phase.
      Lynn 😀

  3. Friday Face-Off: Hands / May the 4th be with you | Perfectly Tolerable

[…] This is a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy, but kept up by Lynn’s Book Blog. […]

  4. PerfectlyTolerable

I agree with your choice! That is a really cool cover and looks kind of creepy (and based on the title I am guessing the book is a little creepy?)

  5. Carmen

I love the black cover with red detail, though only the one that you chose really shows hands. 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

Yep, I was so relieved to find that cover. I had two in mind but they both fell through – so it was going to pretty much end up being Twilight – but I’ve used that cover before and I’d sooner not reuse. Phew.
      Lynn 😀

  6. Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum

Most of these are very nice, I kind of like all of the ones showing a closeup of the girl’s face. The eyes are all so expressive!

  7. maddalena@spaceandsorcery

My favorite is the one in the middle in the second row: for some reason it projects a sense of ominous impending doom I seem unable to shake… 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

That was my original cover and so I do have a soft spot for it.
      Lynn 😀

  8. sjhigbee

This was a canny choice of book, Lynn – I really struggled finding a suitable one this week! And I also agree with your favourite cover, too! Many, many thanks for posting the ongoing timetable – which gives those of us taking part plenty of time to find appropriate books…

    • @lynnsbooks

Me too – a real struggle this week.
I enjoyed putting the list together and I have added something to say if you cant find a cover one week then opt for a freebie – there are no hard and fast rules to this after all, it’s all about sharing the cover love.
      Lynn 😀

      • sjhigbee

That’s a really, really good idea, Lynn!

  9. Greg

Ooh I love how spooky these covers are! My favorites are the one you picked out, as well as the middle second row and the first one on the bottom row. I kinda like the first one top row too though- a lot of these are good!

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, I do like the middle cover in the second row too.
      Lynn 😀

  10. Wendleberry

These are not my style at all, but i don’t mind the third along on the top row. With the woman off-centre and her hair blowing in. That framing is nice.

  11. jessicabookworm

Lynn, this seems a toughie to find a cover for, however I am very excited to see your choice next week for dinosaurs! 😀
