Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below. This week’s theme:
‘lawns and rocks and heather and different sorts of trees, lay spread out below them, the river winding through it’ – a cover featuring a panorama
I had a few covers I fancied using for this one. but I’ve settled on The Fellowship of the Ring by Tolkien because I think the covers are perfect for this theme. I’ve not used all of the covers (that would be a long post indeed) I’ve chosen covers that I think fit this week’s theme so you might not see covers that you’re as familiar with:
My favourite this week :
I love this cover. It just fits the ‘feel’ of the start of the trilogy. Which is your favourite?
Next week – a cover featuring smoke
Future themes:
20th April – Where there’s fire there’s… – a cover featuring smoke
27th April – ‘Those darling byegone times… with their delicious fortresses, and their dear old dungeons, and their delightful places of torture’ – a cover that is positively mediaeval
4th May- ‘A Hand without a hand? A bad jape, sister.’ – a cover featuring a hand/hands
11th May – ‘Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth’ – a cover featuring a dinosaur/s
18th May – ‘Let’s talk of graves, of worms, and epitaphs;’ – a cover featuring a gravestone
25th May – Trip trap, trip trap, trip trap – a cover featuring footsteps
1st June – clinging and invasive – a cover featuring creeping vines
8th June – Raining Cats and Dogs – a cover featuring a stormy sky
I think I like the third one on the top. There’s something about sky and the perspective. Great choice for this week’s feature and I would have had NO IDEA what book to chose to fit this one.
Yeah, I love that one too. It was so difficult to choose.
Lynn 😀
Good choice, and I also like the last cover in the second row: that view of Imladris (if I’m not mistaken) is one I’ve always loved 🙂
They’re all good covers – it was so difficult to choose one.
Lynn 😀
Wow! Am I allowed to like them all? 😉 I particularly liked covers two and three on the first row. The third is of the Aragonath? I think, form the first movie? Great view!
Yes, that was my problem too – I liked them all and it was difficult to choose.
Lynn 😀
I like the second to last cover! I like the mist in the mountains with the castle in the back!
They’re all good covers aren’t they.
Lynn 😀
I like the sound of this meme. I love seeing all the different covers a book ends up getting. These are all lovely. I actually like the second cover the most. Very ominous.
I love looking at all the covers too – that’s one thing about this meme – you see covers from all over the world that you just normally wouldn’t notice.
Lynn 😀
I like the second cover on the top row – it’s lovely. It looks very much as I’d envisaged the party in the early stages of their journey. But all the covers are great:))
It is a great cover – in fact I like them all!
Lynn 😀
That was the one my eye fell on too, I love the old time-y art style, it’s very charming and picturesque 🙂
Looks like an English patchwork countryside in some respects doesn’t it.
Lynn 😀
This is a tough one. I like the one you picked as well, it’s a favorite of mine as that’s the cover version I had (and read) as a kid. So I have that sentimental attachment to it. 🙂 I like the 4th, 6th and 7th ones though too. And even the second one, I’ll have to look closer but I like that too!
That is the good thing with this book – I liked all of these covers.
Lynn 😀
Great book choice Lynn 😀 I really like your cover choice and the very last one.
You can’t go wrong with Tolkien and I liked all of these covers so it was difficult to choose.
